Last night’s Children in Need telecast beat all expectations as it managed to raise a record total on the night.
A whopping £31 million was raised on last night’s telecast alone, beating last year’s £26 million by a considerable mark.
The annual BBC fundraiser featured live music performances from the likes of Ellie Goulding, One Direction, JLS and Tinie Temphah along with the debut TV performance from newly-formed supergroup McBusted!
Other entertainment came from the likes of Catherine Tate’s Nan character being admitted to Holby City Hospital, a special Strictly Come Dancing episode featuring Torvill & Dean, and the cast of EastEnders took on various dance styles including the Charleston and Bollywood.
The six-hour event was presented by Sir Terry Wogan alongside Tess Daly, Fearne Cotton, Zoe Ball and Nick Grimshaw.
Throughout the night, various celebrities made their appeal for you to give whatever you could at home, and it looks like everyone dug deep and gave as much as they could to the cause.
Even One Direction got in on the cause as Niall tweeted: “This is our 1D Pudsey ! It’s up for auction right now for a great cause, please give what you can”.
On the night, he added: “This has been a vintage year for Children in Need and it’s thanks to you at home”.
Prior to the show, Sir Terry Wogan said: “Another year older and my childhood is almost ancient history, though memories from back then are very fond ones.
“I was lucky. Mine was a happy childhood but for many children in the UK, this isn’t the case, which is why the BBC started Children in Need.
“Get involved. Go on, you know you want to. Together we can make 2013 our greatest year ever.”
The donations will continue to keep rolling in over the next days, weeks and months, but it’s safe to say that some amazing causes will benefit from the funds that were raised on the show last night.
