Connie Fisher Fails To Sell Tickets For Tour

Connie Fisher

The knives certainly seem to be out for Connie Fisher this week as people jump on the bandwagon to declare her career is as good as over.

Connie who finished her run in The Sound Of Music last night, to be replaced by another TV star, has no immediate plans for another show. In fact her upcoming tour has been cancelled amidst rumours of poor ticket sales.

Some are claiming that she was never fit for the West End stage, and that there are many more veteran performers out there who had much more charisma and stage presence, while Andre Ptaszynski, the CEO of the Really Useful Group, who was organising Connie’s tour told The Daily Mail:

“I think it is a mean take to say she is not as popular as she seemed to be …

“We decided to do the concert tour around Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 60th birthday and we got the time of it wrong.

“We were trying to push her into 2,000-seat arenas 18 months after she won the competition.

“We are postponing it until the autumn, after her second album. We were overoptimistic. It is not her fault.

“She is a tremendous star and has a very bright future in musical theatre.”

So what do you think? Would you pay to see Connie sing live, or do you think she is on her way to the land of obscurity along with so many other reality TV stars? As always, leave your comments below.

Maybe it was just to soon for people, the only thing she is known for is Maria in Sound of Music which will not have got her a huge following. Perhaps she should wait until she is more well known and try again, cannot be good for her confidence though.

Industry jealousies are an evil thing, they can ruin an artist before you’ve even started to get your foot in the door. Television reality show winners and new members of theatre companies have the most horrendous trying to become established and accepted. Existing professionals become jealous of all the tv coverage, media attention, the photshoot work and the number of appearances in public places they have to make to stay in the public eye. All of this promotional work costs money and like I said before the majority of existing or wanabe professionals just can’t afford the outlay, hence the jealousies.

Connie has a lots of stage charisma and a real passion for what she does. However, to expect an artist such as Connie to immediately go on tour after a spell in surgery and a musical stunt of a good year and more is foolhardy. The girl needs a short rest.

She needs real management, management which will book theatres rather than arenas. Connie is not a pop singer and should not be performing in the arena set up. But rather a tour of provincial theatres covering say 8 a month for the next 4 months after two months of rest is a better option.

Afterall, not all professional artists work every week god gives them. They do take breaks to be with friends and family. Also the much needed holiday gives real time to chill out and rest the tired vocal chords from the strains of performing to packed houses 6 days out of 7, or was 7 out of 7.

Connies future needs real planning and thought and I would hope that whoever represents here interests sits down to discuss this with her.

We DIDNT book to see the show because Connie was in it - but we will go to see SUmmer in the role. The whole point was to find a contemporary maria, not a Julia Andrews look and sound alike. There is no doubt that Connie is talented, but it came across as a play safe option for the search series. However, if her tour is cancelled, that is not a reflection on her ability, it is down to promoters over estimating her appeal and, perhaps, charisma outside of the role of maria. She is also not an established recording artist, or celebrity - musical theatre is not the same as winning X factor where the artiste profile is as important as their ability. No one knows Connie, only as Maria as one other comment rightly says. Therefore, why would someone pay money to see her perform, other than in musical theatre. The approach with Lee Meade has been totally different (and often with male artists it is easier to sell to a pop audience).
