Who else would you have as host for an awards show for stylish men than two very stylish male comics, the people of GQ mush have thought…
So it was no surprise that the hosts of last night’s GQ Awards were the very stylish David Walliams and Jimmy Carr.
Walliams is very much a part of GQ history, in fact, he won the Smirnoff Black Most Stylish Man Award in 2009, and the Comedian Of The Year award twice alongside Matt Lucas. David has also often works for GQ as a journalist and a fashion judge.
Jimmy quickly got in the first mention of his tax scandal himself, while Walliams joked: “It was the wettest summer on record… thanks to 50 Shades Of Grey”.
Carr’s best line according to GQ? “Prince Harry would have been here tonight but he didn’t have anything to wear.”
Former Bond girl and singer Grace Jones came onstage and wrapped her still very strong legs round David, 007 heaven again.
When Harvey Weinstein was onstage to present the Editor’s Special award David quipped: “I would probably sleep with Harvey Weinstein for a role.”
He didn’t have to, Weinstein offered it him on the spot.
The highlight of the night, besides the first public sighting of Gary Barlow since his tragedy, was when Robbie Williams came onstage to collect his Icon award. The singer, whom in the past was close friends with Walliams, wanted the actor to kiss him on the lips. David obliged.
After the show David and wife Lara Stone quickly took off, but David and Jimmy had made a lasting impression, as Gary Barlow Tweeted: “Well done @davidwalliams and @jimmycarr who did a great job hosting #gqawards”
Tonight, we will get a chance to hear the first of David’s voice over for new Syco show “Top Dog Model” also starring Ashley and Pudsey. Not much has been revealed about the show, but how can anything featuring cute dogs looking adorable and David’s camp voice over be anything but great fun?
Top Dog Model starts tonight on ITV2, 8pm!
