FORTUNE: MILLION POUND GIVEAWAY

An exciting new big-money show that takes the saying ‘If you don’t ask, you don’t get’ to a whole new level comes to ITV1 this winter as members of the public are invited to ask for a share of a £1 million giveaway to help make their dreams come true.

A number of famous philanthropists will make up a panel whose job it is to decide who, of those standing before them, is deserving of a share of the massive cash sum in Fortune: Million Pound Giveaway.

The five millionaires who will decide the fate of the hopefuls are author and former politician Jeffrey Archer, Scottish entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne, Ann Summer’s founder Jacqueline Gold, Crystal Palace Chairman and owner Simon Jordan and the MOBO’s founder Kanya King.

The catch is that the hopefuls only get one minute to make their pitch and they must convince the panel - whose own money makes up the £1 million - that they are deserving recipients of the cash to make their hopes and aspirations a reality.

They will then face a barrage of questions from the panellists before they decide how genuine and worthy of the money they are. The ‘asker’ must receive a majority vote or they will leave with their hope of winning a cash bonanza dashed.

Their needs could be as simple as wanting to make a surprise visit to a relative living in a far flung country and needing £3,000 to get there or helping a long-suffering wife who claims: ‘My husband’s DIY ruined the house and I need £10,000 to fix it’.

In front of the studio audience the show’s presenter, Richard Madeley, will wait with the anxious hopefuls as they prepare for the 60 seconds that could change their lives forever.

Anyone can get a slice of the fortune in a show which promises humour, raw emotion and downright cheek. All they have to do is ask.

FORTUNE launches on Tuesday 2 January 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM

  1. Hi guys,
I enjoyed the show, but if this is free money I would like to see money go to sections of the community where there is real need.
i.e Alzheimers sufferers and carers or even the Shumacher institite who do incredable work for people in serious poverty.
I am not appealing for myself but for people in desperate need. Could you please tell me how I could apply?

    & oblige,
    G E Best.

Hi, and congrats on the show. Over the last two years i have lost my inheritance money in trying to help very poor Thai Children and was recently robbed at Gunpoint by 5 men from Cameroon in Bangkok, Thailand of £50,000. I have been trying to help indigenous hill tribe children to learn the English language so that they can use computers and have better life and to this end want to build a school to help them further. My Thai girlfriend has an English degree and has devoted the last 10 years to this cause with very little income and to this end i want to help her succeed further by trying to raise the finance necessary. The cost is not exceptionally high at approx Baht 7,000,000 (£100,000) but would make many children very very happy.

  5. What an amazing opportunity your show provides. I’ve never known anything like it! I’ve just started working at Lifelites, the charity which provides technology for children in hospices. We give them a package of the latest computer and electronic games equipment is supplied along with all of the telecoms and Sky connections free of charge and Lifelites maintain the equipment along the way, meaning that the hospices’ own funds and care staff activities can remain concentrated on delivering care for the child and support for their family. The children think it’s great that they can keep in contact with their friends and schools. They think it’s great for them to have these tools at their figure tips for playing, learning and communicating with friends. We hope this equipment will bring a ray of sunshine into their lives. I would love to have the chance to make a pitch to the panel to support this scheme. Please let me know how I should go about it. Many thanks.

My nephew is Evan-Ray and is 2 years old. He has cerebral palsy. This is a condition that means he cant sit up, crawl or walk with out support. We have done charity things to help raise some money for him to go up to England to have some treatment that might help him, but if we could get £25,000 he can go abroad to a special place and have some operations to make his dream come true of being able to crawl even may be walk.
I would like to bring my nepwhew onto the show to see what the pannel think of trying to help him. I have watched the show and some of the money they have give away werent really needed but my nephew needs this money to make his dream come true of walking. Please help him and tell me how i can bring him onto the show?

    Thanks

  8. I work for a charity in Brixton, South London called Independance. We run education initiatives in schools and provide opportunities for young people to engage in the arts. In September, we put on B.Supreme - The first ever festival for women in Hip Hop at the South Bank Centre in London. The event was a huge success with an audience of over 2,000 people. We set up training all over the UK with girls between 12-16 taking part in choreography with some of the best artists in the world, including Missy Elliot’s choreographers. We managed to reach 4,312.5 learning hours between May-Sept 06, which is an amazing feat. Despite the success, and the amount of young people B.Supreme benefited, The Arts Council are refusing to fund us the second year around. We are desperate to raise enough money to do this project again and would like some information about how to apply. We would love to have the opportunity to talk to the panel about our event and the differences we’ve made in giving young girls positive role models and experiences to benefit them for the rest of their lives.
Please let me know how I should go about it.
    Many thanks

  9. I work for a charity in Noroflk called BREAK which provides a range of speicla care services, but in particular supported holidays and respite care for children and adults with learning disbailties.

Some of the people we help have very profound needs and are often cared for at home by their families. This puts a huge strain on the family and can often lead to individuals and families breaking down.

Disability is not sexy and it is difficult to get support, but the small bit of respite we give families can be a lifeline to them. I’d love the chance to be able to put our case across for more funding and support to help families from across the UK.

Please contact me and let me know how to apply.

    Many thanks

I am fifty four years old married with three children, two daughters and a son. I worked as a community nurse on nights, mostly dealing with people with terminal cancer as I was Marie Curie trained.
In 1993 I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, although devastated I was able to keep working, but had to retire six years ago, due to fatigue and poor mobility.
In 2004 I took a drug called Aimspro, on an informed consent basis, after six months my fatigue and general mobility improved so much that I was able to take a part-time secretarial job. After a year the drug was withdrawn, due to problems the company had with production. Aimspro is now available and has a licence, but it costs £180 a vial, and I was using two injections per week.
As my condition is worsening I am asking if your company would give a donation for me to be able to get this drug now. It costs £2,700, for 15 vials, if I just took it every other week it may help.
Aimspro,is made by a company called Daval International, any information is available on the net.
I am writing this , because I feel I have no other option, hopefully in time this drug will be available on the NHS. I don’t have time.

    Yours sincerely

I Sincerely wish all those success in applying to this show for funding. Good luck.

There is something though which really stands out about this kind of show as it highlights areas of need within society.

Being artistically inclined myself community music and arts projects but far more oppressing and needful than this is the predominance of social and medical needs which are indicative of other and more appealing issues. By this I mean the uneven spread of NHS spending on drugs, or operations, the classification criteria determining need. Also extremely sad are those things that are a social need to the aid of a decent lifestyle, this is suggestive of other misgivings in our welfare state or the incomes threshold being to low.

The divide between the haves and the have nots does not appear to closing.

So there is nothing like reading things twice if you have any reason to desire applying for this show giving you an opportunity to plead your case, go for it and the very best of luck.

    Hi,

I am a 17 year old girl form the south west. I go to college and hope to work with animals in a few years after I qualify to be a vet nurse. I have recently found a part time job in a vet surgery, but there is no bus route to it. I need to go for the job to gain experience in the animal care business but transport is going to be a problem due to not having a car.

In November 2006, on my way to college I was involved in a car accident, thankfully know one was injured just shock. My car however was written off a couple of weeks later. Now I have to rely on my parents and friends to get me to and from college every day and also to work at the weekends and some evenings. I’m so grateful to them for driving me to and throw, but now I feel that it’s asking a bit much of them all the time.

I’m not hoping to get a brand new car or anything like that just a decent reliable ford KA, or Renault Clio that will get me from A to B. I have been looking out for one in my price range for the last month but nothing has been available within 100miles from where I live. I have saved half the amount needed to buy a new car, but I was wondering if you could help me out with the other half. I would ideally need about £900 but if that’s not possible then any amount would help me on my way to buying a new car.

    Hi,

My name is Abbey im 14 years old and compete in gymnastics the discipline of Sports Acrobatics along with my partner Shanie-Redd who is 10.I have been doing gym for 8 years and Shanie practically all of her life both of us have competed in many competitions and earned titles such as British champion and competed in many internationals around the world such as Switzerland, Germany and a few others (me including European Championships Poland of zeliona Gora.) I and Shanie have only started working together this year and are hoping to thrive in success as our 11-16 womens pair.
As you can probably imagine competing in many internationals abroad such as Europeans and World Championships, leotards of up to hundreds of pounds each, foreign chorographers, travelling and training fees, physio, tracksuits and entry fees. We also have special coaches come in from Great Britain’s highest standards as you can imagine this comes to quite a total! As we do not get trials to get support from lottery funding anymore it is hard for our parents and families to provide, so much money to such a point my mum does 3 jobs and still struggles to provide.
Great Britain’s standards are really starting to rise and are become more known for this sport. Technically we are as good as the Russians, Bulgarians and many others but when it comes to first place it come down to the chorography, as we do not have a consistent chorographer at our club King Edmunds in Bristol it is hard to reach the standard of other clubs in Great Britain or though normally do manage it, to go out with more confidence knowing you look good and have amazing routines as I believe if you look and feel great, you perform great?!
This year we are hoping to go to Portugal, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Germany x2(Alberhausen and Dresden) Freedom cup in the U.S.A and a couple others to be considered. Hopefully after trials for Europeans we will proceed to compete in European Championships and make our international debut as a womens pair and gain a place on the Great Britain squad to compete in the finals in Holland! It has been our long life ambition to be own a medal from Europeans or World Championships!
Training 4 times a week almost 20hrs and dedicating almost every aspect of our lives to gymnastics you develop a love to the sport a passion almost when your doing it you enter your own little world called gym world and thats all that matters to you ,and no one can take you out of it! As my mum would say I sleep gym, do gym, love gym. If I ever had to stop gym because my parents couldn’t afford it id be devastated!
I no it sounds like im asking a lot of you but gyms MY LIFE,MY WORLD,MY SPORT! From all my reasons above such as competitons abroad, leotards costs ECT. To compete this year and work our way to give us the opportunity we’ve got the commitment dedication love and passion of our sport and support. If you’re able to help us THE SKY IS OUR ONLY LIMIT! Our estimated total cost each will be about £5000 I understand this is a lot of money any amount would be appreciated, but we are competing for our country and are working to succeed in every competiton we do. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help us with our ambitions loves and passions.
Thank you for taking the time to read this

(PLEASE READ YOU COULD HELP A LITTLE BOY LIVE) hi im a 16 year old girl living in north london and i think this show is a great opportunity for dreams that you think are impossible to come true, like the dream i have.. im writing today because i lost my brother 2 weeks before christmas a month a go now and he was only 19 and a great brother indeed. when we had the funarel it was a total shock to see so many people that had turnt up there was over 700 people. as some people wanted to donate money we thought this would be a great chance to collect this money and donate it to, jack brown a little four year old boy who lives just 5 minutes away from me(now in america). the little boy jack was diagnosed with a rare disease called neuroblastoma two years ago, which is a form of cancer. Neuroblastoma is a solid tumor cancer that begins in the nerve tissue of the neck, chest, abdomen, or pelvis but usually originates in the abdomen in the tissue of the adrenal gland. jack has already had treatment before costing £250,000 which is a huge amount of money for anyone to get let alone just working class people. amazingly they were able to raise the money but unfortunaly ahuge set back happened when doctors discovered a tumour on his brain due to the relapse. the family need to raise $750,000 (£380,000) for futher surgery. i have never done anything like this before and i don’t know jack or his family myself but reading and hearing about this poor little boy just drives me to raise as much money as i can. i no u cant give £380,000 but any donation would be amazing. thank you for your time. please could you contact me as quick as you can. thanks alot x

There is no closing date on the site above and we have contacted the shows publicist but as yet have had no answer.

I’m sorry our reply was not as prompt as you would have liked, but we receive hundreds of comments and queries each day on the site and it is hard to reply to each one.

Hi I would really like to apply for this show. I am a volunteer counsellor support worker at Watford Turn Around. We run programmes for Victims of Domestic Violence. Due to running out of funding, a year ago, we had to close the perpatrators programme. The men who attend this programme all wanted to change from being abusive to their partners, to treating them properly. They all attended voluntarily. Surely with the statistics that are proven, if a man wants to get help to stop being violent, he should be able to. How can I apply please?
