Greased Lightnin’ On ITV2
Show 1 Saturday 7th April 7.05pm ITV1
Holly Willoughby will be hopelessly devoted to bringing more dancing, more acting, more singing, and all of the backstage gossip in Greased Lightnin’ on ITV2, straight after Grease Is The Word on ITV1.
Before a single quiff can be combed, ITV2 takes an exclusive peeky look behind the scenes to see just how the auditions actually work and find out just what the judges are really thinking.
Holly invades backstage – from the holding area and theatre to the judge’s dressing room, she’ll be gaining access all areas. As soon as the specially designed one-tonne set is in place, the judges take their seats for the first time and auditions commence.
Sexy dancing Richard from Essex
18 year old Richard is first up and looks like a bag of nerves but he believes that he’s got what it takes to be the leading man, ‘I’ve got the moves and I’ve got the looks’ he says.
After being shocked by some of Richards sexy dance moves judge Brian Friedman says, ‘you are a natural dancer – I’ll give you that. Your rhythm is great, you’re full out, the execution of your moves is great but your singing was hard to handle.’
The grace and elegance of a baby elephant
Meanwhile 17 year old dance specialist Kirsty from Shrewsbury waits nervously with Holly, ‘I’m going to try and show off what I can do’ she says. Kirsty has a BIG impact on the judges after leaping across the stage in a unique style…wearing just one ballet pump.
‘She moved with what she’s got to the beat of her own drum – A for effort,’ comments David Gest.
Brian is equally impressed with the dancer, ‘you kicked off those shoes and pointed those toes!’
Lucky duck
Cute Lori from Leeds is halfway there with her American name and her cute looks but will her fabulous charm, a little duck, be the duck of luck? David Gest gives the wannabe Sandy some advice, ‘you’re the bomb! You should be handing those ducks out to some of those people in line!’
All four judges love her and she breezes through to Bootcamp.
David Gest reveals what he’s really looking for
Holly gets to grips with the four high school Principals and finds out exactly what they are looking for. David Ian explains, ‘It has all been a bit average. We’re looking for star quality.’
Sinitta knows exactly the kind of Sandy she has in mind, ‘She has to be sweet, she has to be pretty, but she also has to have an inner fire, she’s got to have some light and some courage.’ David Gest has different ideas about his ideal Sandy, ‘I’m looking for a Sandy who can hold out for a long orgasm.’ All four judges however are on the look out for the ‘Triple Threat’ – where an auditionee can sing, dance and act to an extraordinary level.
Joseph’s big chance
Joseph, 27, has already had a bit of an ordeal getting to the audition,
‘I’ve tried to get in shape for the role because Danny was a bit of a looker. I used to be a lot bigger than I am now – I’ve almost lost half my body weight so it’s been a struggle. I used to weight around 30 stone so I was pretty big.’
‘Grilled’ Is The Word for Joseph, but despite Brian beaming that he lit up the room, David Gest described his audition as ‘comedy’ and feels he shouldn’t get through.
Over the hill?
Jason, 38 from Wootton, is confident he can cut it as Danny Zuko only to be told by David Ian that he wouldn’t make Danny in Grease because of his age. David Gest jumps to his defence and believes that age doesn’t really matter,
‘You’ve got talent, but you don’t look 18, you don’t look 20, you don’t look 24, I don’t look 70 so what’s the difference?’
After Sir Ian suggests an image overhaul DG adds, ‘even my plastic surgeon couldn’t take 20 years off me – come back tomorrow.’
With just eight hours to make himself look 20 years younger Jason sets to work – but will he convince the judges?
British men can’t dance!
Holly drops in for a chat with Judge Brian to get an insight into how he thinks the auditions are going and what the talent is like in the UK compared to the US.
‘The dancing is really bad for me. I love the singers, amateurs that are on the verge of being professionals, some great actors and actresses but the dancing is just horrible.’ Brian has worked with some of the best pop artists in the world including Britney Spears, Prince, Brittany Murphy, Ashanti, Aaron Carter, Hilary Duff and Beyonce.
Housewife Sandy?
Next up is 45 year old housewife and Mother Amanda from Watford. ‘It’s been my life ambition to be Sandy. She made it late in life so I think I’ve got a bit of a chance.’ After not impressing the judges Amanda regrets using her prop and putting up her brolly indoors.
Bubbly and outgoing Vicky from Doncasterwho is challenging what the conventional Sandy is like storms her audition by wowing all four of the Grease Is the Word judges.
ITV2 lets the contestants have the last word and Holly is always on hand in Greased Lightnin’.
