How Has Steve Irwins Death Affected You?

So how has the news of Steve Irwin affected you? Young or old alike loved his animal antics and will be missed. In her first announcement since his death, Terri announced earlier in the week the memorial service would take place at ‘Crocoseum’ at Queensland’s Australia zoo.

So how has the news affected others? Prime Minister John Howard offered a state funeral and Russell Crowe flew back to Australia to pay tribute to Steve Irwin. Russell was even given a special three day leave from the set of his recent film, now in production.

Media is being restricted, according to manager John Stainton. They will allow one radio, one television and one press crew into the memorial. The hopes are to protect Steve’s wife Terri. A limited amount of ‘tickets’ will be available to the general public and many in Australia have camped overnight in hopes of acquiring said tickets; of which only three thousand tickets will be available.

Before the night was through however, at least one man was arrested for disorderly conduct, including taking a swing at the officer. To darken the mood even more, 10 stingrays have been found mutilated on Queensland beaches since Steve’s death. Surely, this is not what Steve would have wanted.

  1. Dawny says:

Steve Irwin was a showman and people watched his programme for him not the animals, hence some of his so-called fans, with brains no bigger than walnuts, think they should kill sting rays to avenge his death.
Its not as if the stingrays walk out of the sea on their fins, hunted him down and executed him mafia style.

However with the knowledge many of his “fans” have of wild animals they possible thought it happened this way.
The message of conservation didnt really get through, at all.

I have seen Sir David Attenborough also examining crocodiles in wildlife programmes, but I dont believe he dangled his babies in front of them and laughed with a big crowd round him. SIR DAVE was not obstrusive in the crocodiles natural surroundings he was humble, dignified and educational.

Steve was a great entertainer, but I think he would have been Steve no matter what he was presenting the animals were often secondary.

He will be known more of a crocodile wrestler, in the future , than someone who ever educated the public about crocodiles.

I will miss Mr Irwin’s showmanship and feel sympathy for his kids/ wife. However he was an adult male who was also a father who allowed grown men to believe they should wrestle with wild animals and poke them with sticks for fun as if they were auditioning for Dirty Sanchez or Jackass TV.

    Thats what Dawn thinks anyway.

Dwan I love that you are never afraid to speak your mind! Your comments are always so interesting.

  3. Dawn says:

I’m still sad he’s gone though as he was a bright honest star in a dreary dishonest world, even though his presenting was jackass style.

I must give him a gold/platinum star as He ploughed his own money into conservation, which most people may not be aware of. As most people if honest watched to see him get bitten or mauled by the animals, as opposed to watching the animals.

I always thought he tempted fate, by putting himself in unnecessary danger like an excited naughty schoolboy, but thats why people liked him. He loved life and died doing what he liked best. I couldnt imagine him dying in bed as an old man (as david attenborough most likely will do), so we all have to give him credit for the guns-a- blazing approach he showed to his profession.

Yes it was brash , yes it was cheap, cheap reality TV and sometimes not realistic at all, Yes he was more like jackass TV than David Attenborough and a lot of the time reckless, but he never professed it to be anything else. So Fair play.

But he is no longer around to entertain and be with his his family and I suppose thats the real sad part.

While his antics were sometimes reckless with wild life and he did set some bad examples (to the more simple minded humans) on how to deal with our wildlife.

Steve Irwin doesnt deserve a tongue lashing from PETA, when so many people in the world are abusing animals and wildlfe, thats just EVIL of them.

I’ve always admired and supported PETA, but they should stick to hounding J-lo and P-diddy sean puffy puffy daddy combes for having more fur in their closets than Noah had in his ark ! BAD PETA Me very dissapointed in you.

If PETA so offended by Steve why dont they try to find a Wildlife presenter of their own, who can broadcast wildlife programmes according to their “standards”.

    Dawn thinks so anyway

  4. Jeff Grode says:

Not only that, but if Peta had such a problem with him, why wait till he dies before speaking out about him? To rebuke him hours after his death is in poor, poor taste. Can you imagine how his wife is taking the news.

  5. Paulette Ezernack says:

I’m very sad and hurt that Steve is gone. I lost my husband to cancer in 1997 and our 28 year old daughter to Leukemia in 1999. My daughter had a 5 year old boy and she just had twin girls in 1998. They were 5 months when our daughter died.

I can relate to how Terri feels. Believe me, it won’t be easy. But, her faith is strong just like mine. We’ll make it with God’s help.

Bindi and Bob will make it too. They’ll survive even if Terri and I don’t. They’ll come through alright. They got their dad and God watching over them. God Bless the children and us and all the world.

  6. Dawn says:

If nikki was to wrestle a crocodile PETA would intervene wisely for cruelty to simple minded animals.

They would take to crocodile to one side and scold it

PETA: Mr crocodile while you have more intelligence than dear old nikki, this is no reason to torture her with wrestling antics.

I think the crocodile would understand, pat Nikki on her blond bonce and utter these words

Crocodile : “there, there my dear, do you want to do some coloring in, while the doctor gets your lithium ready”.

I’d like to see old nikki spending sometime talking to a psychiatrist on her next programme that would be torture for her.

  7. Dawn says:

Sorry for your great loss Paulette I hope you are getting the support to aid and comfort you in your tragedy.

Steve’s situation was different from your husband’s situation, but a loss of life, is a loss of life and the void feels the same regardless of the circumstances.

    So PETA should no better

  8. Dawn says:

I think when people dont know what to say or do they in an umcomfortable situation, sometimes can react in two ways.

They make a joke out of it
    or

blame the person they cannot help, so they avoid the real issue.

PETA acted in the latter manner.
It is strange with all the so -called reality shows on the box, we cant deal with real life too well.

when a high profile person dies as it is covered by media, it opens up the wounds of death for ordinary folk. So a bit more sensitivity should be adopted by people who comment on tragedies like PETA.

And if they cant say anything constructive, dont say anything at all.

since i was young, Stevie Irwin Has Been my insperation to animals, he shows that snakes, crocodiles and other animals should be shown love the and respect as much as fuzzy, cute looking ones.

i love all his programs, i could watch them over and over again. i have got loads of knollage about snakes and another animals from him, he is the best wildlife Expert Ever.

its because of him, i wanted to, ands till do, go to Australia.

my ambition was to see him in person.

Sadly i never got to do that, and never will.

i miss him loads, hes been such an inspiration when i was growing up, that i miss him like if he was family.

i always remeber his work, and i would never condone the stigray that killed him, or any other for that matter, its just one of thoes things that happens. and he died the way he wanted to, he said he wanted to be died filming animals than die old in a bed.

    RIP Steve Irwin – February 22, 1962 – September 4, 2006

  17. rob says:

hes made such an impact on me
that i wanted to dedicate my life to animals, im joining college to study animals, i already have had years of experience from working on farms, to working in vets.

im joining college this September and will also be going to Uni to carry on learning.

to see from other comments, that steve has made them go into an animal career, shows that his work still lives on, and always will :)
