Indian Reality TV Contestant Seriously Ill

A man has been rushed to hospital after taking part in a popular Indian reality TV show.

As part of the show, contestants were challenged to submerge themselves underwater for as long as possible. Anjar Khan, 22 took part, but after several minutes producers realised there was a problem and pulled him from the tank. After walking a few steps, Mr Khan collapsed and was rushed to hospital, he has remained in a serious condition ever since.

“He was brought to the hospital with a major part of his system such as pulse and blood pressure in an extremely critical condition,” Dr GMR Shah of Mayur Hospital told the BBC.

Police have since arrested three employees of the event management firm who organised the stunt as according to reports, no doctors or paramedics were present at the mall when the incident took place.

Officials say the organisers did not have permission to hold the contest.

Senior police officer Mahesh Chandra Jain said the arrested employees would be charged with “gross negligence which put a person’s life in danger”.
