ITV are sending Dancing On Ice host Christine Bleakley & Splash! mentor Tom Daley on their hols for new travel shows!
As fans of Dancing On Ice presenter Christine Bleakley will no doubt know, her – very lucrative – contract with ITV has recently expired, and it was thought at one time that when that happened, the broadcaster would drop her like a hot brick, given the expensive disaster that her stint on Daybreak with Adrian Chiles was…
However, not so as today, it’s been reported that rather than relegate her to the dole queue, they are instead sending Christine on several paid holidays for a new travel show entitled Country Roads, that will explore “some of Britain’s backwaters.”
The Sun’s TV Biz reports, “In the quirky series, she traipses around the nation to lift the lid on some remarkable – yet unsung – destinations away from traditional tourist trails.
“The format could be a winner for ITV, with more and more Brits looking for inspiration as they opt for ‘staycations’ because of foreign holiday costs.
“Christine has taken in places including areas in rural Shropshire and Fife in the Scottish lowlands.”
And she’s not the only one being paid to go on holibobs as the paper also reports that Splash! mentor Tom Daley is “swapping backflips for backpacks” as he heads around the world for a new TV series.
Due to air on ITV2, Tom’s show will see him visiting backpacking hotspots in Thailand, Japan, Australia, Morocco and New Zealand during six weeks of travelling.
He’ll also be seen meeting up with friends during his travels, including The Saturdays singer, Mollie King.
Of the show, Tom said, “I can’t wait to get away on my trip. Diving and training are my first love…
“But I am looking forward to a break from the norm and discovering more about places I’ve never had the chance to explore before.
“And to do it all with my best friend will be amazing.”
ITV’s director of digital channels Angela Jain added, “Tom’s career as a diver has captivated the nation.
“We hope this show will give people the chance to see the teenager behind the trunks as he enjoys his global backpacking adventure.”
There’s no news yet on when these shows will air, but we will of course keep you posted.
For now, here’s a reminder of Tom on Splash!
