Jamie ‘Afro’ Archer may quit X Factor

jamie-afroAccording to the Sun newspaper today, Jamie ‘Afro’ Archer is threatening to leave The X Factor following another row with his mentor, Simon Cowell.

The paper claims that rockers Bon Jovi were so impressed by Jamie when they heard him sing last week, that they invited him to tour with them as a support act, however, it appears Simon refused to allow Jamie to go, claiming he was contracted to the show.

This latest row follows a bust-up Simon and Jamie allegedly had a couple of weeks ago when Simon insisted that Jamie change his song choice just hours before the show.

The paper quotes a source who’s close to Jamie as saying, “Jamie’s fed up with the competition and how Simon is treating him.

“He was on the verge of quitting at the weekend because he was so angry at being given rubbish songs and some judges’ comments. He hasn’t forgiven Simon for changing his song…

“Their relationship is not great. There were already serious cracks but now it’s more like the Grand Canyon.

“Jon Bon Jovi came up to him after the Sunday show, told him he liked him and offered him a support act role on the tour.

“Jamie was thrilled but his contract means he is tied to X Factor and wouldn’t be able to do it. He was absolutely gutted and it made for a tense week between him and Simon.

“He feels Simon gives him rubbish songs to make people vote for Olly Murs and Danyl Johnson. He calmed down and decided to stay as he realised it’s incredible exposure.”

And it seems that Jamie’s not happy about Simon’s choice of song for him this week; Unchained Melody. Apparently, Jamie hasn’t been able to practice the song due to the virus that’s been sweeping through the contestants.

The paper’s source added, “Not only is he singing a song out of his comfort zone, his voice has been really croaky.”

So will he quit? And do you think he’d be right to choose a potential career with Bon Jovi aiding him or should he stick with the show and Simon? Let us know!

    Go with Bon Jovi!

  2. Lynn says:

I absolutely agree Richie! He’s too good a singer to pass up a chance like that!

    Thanks for your comment :-)

  3. didi says:

i totaly agree…go with Bon Jovi man:)

  4. Tanya says:

I reckon he should have gone for it.. you shouldn’t waste oppertunities like that. See thats the whole thing – simon cowell doesn’t actually care about his contestants future or anything, he just cares about the money he’ll get from them on the x factor. sickening.

  5. Sandy says:

I totally agree with Tanya . . . Cowell only cares about what makes him look good and of course, money. The way he demoralizes the younger contestants is sickening. If Jamie still has a shot at going on tour with Bon Jovi, perhaps the public should vote him off XFactor this weekend to give him that opportunity. He’s not going to win XFactor, so why not let him live his dream? Up yours, Simon.

  6. Becca says:

He’s gotta go with Bon Jovi!
i LOVE him on X Factor, but he’s got a way bigger chance with Bon Jovi
he’s a really good singer and he can really entertain and perform well, but he’s not gonna win.
danyl, or olly, or lucie may win, but even though jamie is amazing he’s not gonna win.
so he has to go with bon jovi,
good luck to him :) !

  7. Becca says:

And also I agree with Sandy, and obviously Simon has to think about money sometimes. But when you own X Factor, Britains Got Talent, American Idol etc. then you know you can spare one contestant and let him have a chance too. He’s not going to win so let him live his dream, it’s not gonna affect Simon at all.
I reckon Simon thinks that it will look bad for him.
Is anyone gonna stop watchin it if Jamie leaves? I don’t think so.
To be honest I think even Jamie will keep watchin it haha ;)

  8. stacey says:

    dont leave jamie… please! :(

  9. Grace says:

Simon definitely gives Jamie rubish songs. I commented on this myself for the past couple of weeks.
For a start, Jamie would have delivered the Aerosmith’s song much, much better than Danyl, who usually shouts everything to a point, that he kills every tune in every song.
Voting Jamie off is not going to free him from the X-factor contract, because they are usualy signed for the tour, which means, that if he goes, he will have less exposure on the show and no future.
Jamie is the best singer in this show, however, he will not win, because Simon clearly wants Danyl to win and he will make sure of that.
The x-factor is always a fix and the show always promotes the judges, not the contestants.

A difficult career choice. To leave a show where all the costs are accounted for or to become self employed and totally responsiblle for your own.

It’s a big wide world out there and if you are without the funds in your family background to risk it all, than sadly the best option might be to stick the X factor out.

Bon Jovi had to pay £30.000 pounds for their X factor set. I doubt whether Jamie has the funds to become a self employed act as he hasn’t had sufficient length of time working the circuit to have built the funds up.

Sadly when situations like this arise you realise how very private the business side of the music business is.

If Bon Jovi keep to there word maybe some 18 months down the line when the contractual requirements of the X factor tour is over with the grace time allowed during the running of the show and the gracetime outside of the one year from the show, Jamie may be in a better position to take up there offer.

  11. graham says:

i think he should quit, its a pop artist who is gunna winn the show anyway, his voice is too good for the x factor, i would give my right arm to go on the road with bon jovi if i could sing, i think he should go for it, this could be the start of good things to come

  12. CATHERIENK says:

    he is RIGHT
    they are GIVING HIM R U B B I S H to sing
HE NEEDS TO DO HIS OWN THING
not dragged into the whole simon cowell media thing
i thought the show was worth watching this year with acts like jamie
but they are just turning him into another x factor star
he needs to do his own thing everyone loves him because of that AMAZING audition he did
and now sion doesnt know what to do with him
    hes too focused on danyl
JAMIE NEEDS TO PICK HIS OWN SONGS

  13. Lisa says:

Jamie is the best, he’s amazing, an excelent person and singer and com’on everybody knows that there are a contract with finalists and Xfactor. I think that this Bon Jovi’offer is not real or maybe it happens, but in other circunstances.

    That seems more a trap…

Please keep voting in Jamie. Go the FRO!

  14. NANCY DURHAM says:

Totally agree – Jamie WOULD’VE performed the Aerosmith song 100% better than Danyl. Simon keeps telling us what a brilliant voice DJ has – I think Jamie is much better. Yeah, his voice is OK but it’s not brilliant. I don’t like him anyway and would rather Jedward won the XF than Danyl

  15. Zegrae says:

Take some talent, exploit it on Saturday night TV, watch it fall to pieces, that’s entertainment.. Some of us may remember Hughie Green, the Simon Cowell of the early 1970s, his proteges allegedly had to pay Green a 25% commission after their exposure on ‘Opportunity Knocks’, for the rest of their career. Most famous contestant? – Lena Zavaroni, child star, dead at 35. Exploited, ruined, neglected then dead. Never considered or developed as an artist. Does anyone recognise the pattern here?
What was missing then, and still is missing is any conscience on the part of the producers to actually nurture talent, rather than throw it into the mincer then watch it sizzle on the barbeque.
Taking part in this sorry process is the major mistake made by the contestants. Jamie Afro took what may have seemed the only route available to him at the time and is now regretting it. I feel sorry for them all, but more so for the loss of the actual music industry the UK once had, which offered an alternative to the talent show toilet route.

  16. Jenny says:

i think jamie should stay on x factor , i really like him !! :)

  18. Maureen says:

    Hello Zegrae,

Sounds like you have a song title or ditty on your mind. ‘That’s entertainment.’

Sadly last night made me realise that this programme which has so much potential to do the right thing, has got to be reaching the end of days.

    The twins survival another week.

A girl leaving with potentially a really good voice.

This format folks isn’t doing this year is it?

    Big sigh. Emptiness.

  19. stephanie says:

    wow that would be a dream come true im so jealous not only did jamie met my hero but hes got the chance to tour with the band having said that i want jamie to win x factor but to tour with jon id be gone in a second with them {i can dream}

  20. pablo says:

go with them coz them as this show is one big con and its fixed

  21. ian says:

Jamie should go with Bon Jovi after all they where right about Daughtry and look at Bo Bice when he took on 2 Bon Jovi songs on his first album.

  22. Phil says:

too right Go with Bon Jovi, X Factor is rubbish and he is too good for it, who the hell is voting for jonathan and edward. jamie is 1000% better than the idiots

  23. edna scott says:

disgrace that jamie has gone louis walsh is a pompous ass and made it very obvious that jamie wud go he really had it in for jamie he doesnt know his ass from his elbow simon cowell also has a chance to get rid of the “terrible twins” but didnt all he wants is the money and evri 1 talkin bout jedward how pathetic is that the show is a complete farce and no longer is about being the best singer i think it is about who is the biggest clown(s) in that case the grimes will def win

  24. Diane Dee says:

I agree with Edna, louis walsh had decided before jamie had even sung that he was going to vote him out, didn’t even clap him! These people are idolised by the public! Why? Money obviously talks. Jamie should have been in the final, Lucy too – why aren’t people voting for the TALENT in the show??

  25. Tye says:

Diane it’s simple, it’s because people are becoming so stupid these days!
And it also has to do with the media, they are all rising up the stupid twins who can’t even sing, all people thinking they are cute, i mean why don’t they just put a puppy on the stage if it’s about being cute these days not being talented!!!

  26. mel says:

i used to love x factor, but this yr is crap, they are getting rid of everyone that are any good, i was totally gutted last sat, when jamie was voted off. will not be watching it anymore.
