Lets Dance For Sports Relief 2010: Liveblog

As part of this year’s Sports Relief efforts, the BBC is running another series of celebrity based ‘Lets Dance.’
This year’s group will include Katy Brand, Rufus Hound and Shappi Khorsandi represent the world of comedy, alongside some of the nations favourite Grumpy Old Women, Jenny Eclair, Linda Robson, Lesley Joseph and Susie Blake. Also performing over the series will be the cast from Holby City, the news presenters and Olympians Mark Foster, Iwan Thomas, Leon Taylor, Dalton Grant, Heather Fell and Jamie Baulch.
Let’s get cracking on tonight’s show. We are hoping that someone will be as funny as Robert Webb or can anyone remember Christian and Minty’s hilarious dance last year? Classic! First up is comedian…..
RUFUS HOUND:
Rufus took to the stage to perform Cheryl Cole’s ‘Fight For This Love’, dressed in full military getup. We particularly loved the revealing slashed trousers and figure hugging black mankini, in fact he looked so like Cheryl that our first thought was ‘Chezza looks good with some meat on her bones.’ Strangely, Rufus carried off the routine pretty well and has more rhythm than we ever could have imagined. He wasn’t quite up to Robert Webb’s standard, but it was very, very amusing all the same.
Judges comments:
Kimberley Walsh: I cannot believe how perfect some of the moves were and I think Cheryl would have loved it too.
Frank Skinner. that would make such a good recruit video for the Salvation Army. That was the best most brilliant start. I loved it!
Jason Manford: I’ll be honest with you, without the beard….I would! I feel that was so good that you were doing that dance anyway and this show just happened to come along.
THE OLYMPIANS
These sports stars are taking on Madonna’s Vogue and Heather Fell is sporting a pointed bra and blonde wig for the occasion. It was all a bit wooden for us and we had high hopes for Mark Foster considering his dancing/reality TV background. These guys haven’t a hope of getting to the final show, but did make us laugh with their awfulness, which is the important thing considering the show.
Judges Comments:
Kimberley: You started off quite nervously then seemed to get into it. I loved the backflip, well done!
Jason: I thought it was great, you nailed it. I thought you made the dance your own, you owned the stage and there was a certain intensity.
Frank: Well I particularly loved Heather’s top, two bonus points for that. It was really electric and I loved it.
KATY BRAND
Katy’s VT was done in the style of MTV Cribs. We love Katy’s living room which is apparently modelled on Beyonces own home and is chock full of tinned fruit. This is the first time we have actually laughed at Katy Brand, who we normally detest, so that’s a good start.
Tonight Katy is dancing Single Ladies so expecting lots of booty wobbling! OMG she pulled it off amazingly well. She loooked amazing in her tight black outfit which was a shock and that girl can move. We expected to hate it, but it was actually the best thing we’ve seen on TV since X Factor ended.
Judges Comments:
Frank: I think that is such an iconic video and you took it on and really went for it. I absolutely loved it!
Kimberley: It was brilliant and I hope people realise how difficult the choreography is!
Jason: The original is on loop in our house and I actually prefer your’s already. If you make it to the final put in more bum slaps, I think you enjoyed those.
SNOOKER VS DARTS
This team consists of snooker legends Willie Thorne, Dennis Taylor and Darts stars Tony O’Shea and Bobby George. Tonight they will dance Run DMC’s Walk This Way. We are loving Willie’s full length animal print coat a la Kat Slater, though the darts players look more chav than gangsta! The routine is pretty basic and a little bit cringeworthy and none of these guys have a beat in their head. Funny but crap is our supreme judgment.
Judges Comments:
Frank: These guys are like heroes of mine. Willie Thorne is surprisingly resembling a barmaid I had a fling with in 1978. I thought it was really really enjoyable.
Jason: That’s what carried that, the fact that you loved it so much. You’re actually better looking than Steve Tyler. I thought it was brilliant and great fun.
Kimberley; I really enjoyed it and you’re so far out of your comfort zones obviously. You got the crowd going too.
THE NEWSREADERS
This team consists of Louise Minchin, Ellie Crisell and Matt Barbet, none of whom we have ever heard of before. They are being choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing star Flavia Caccae and Matt better watch out as she is prone to having flings with her male dance partners! Flavia succeeded in scaring the life out of the newsreaders and seemed to take all the fun out of the whole experience. We knew we never liked her!
The newsies will be performing a tango to Kiss Of Fire. The girls weren’t too bad but that Matt has two left feet! We thought he was about to fall only a few seconds into the routine and that awful butt shimmy at the end almost out us off our curry!
Judges Comments:
Frank: I loved it…those splits, is that what they call a newsflash?
Jason: I don’t think there is any bloke watching now who wouldn’t want to be Matt!
Kimberley: I think this is one of the most difficult choreography wise. I loved your lift Ellie, that was impressive.
CASUALTY AND HOLBY
From Casualty we have Charles Dale (who plays Big Mac), Tony Marshall (receptionist Noel Garcia), Ben Turner (Jay Faldren). Joining them from Holby are Rosie Marcel (who plays Jac Naylor) and Luke Roberts (Joseph Byrne).
The medics will be dancing to Jai Ho by the Pussycat Dolls…point of interest ‘Jai Ho’ is a Hindi phrase which actually means ‘Be Victorious’. Let’s hope the TV stars can do just that. So they start off with Rosie jumping off a hospital gurney and while we thought these lot were some of the more natural dancers of the night, the choreography was too basic and they could have made a bit of effort on their costumes. They look like they’ve just got off the train, what happened to the Bollywood theme?
Judges Comments:
Frank: I thought it absolutely rocked and you were synchronized and together and great!
Jason: You can really tell that you work together a lot and Charles you remind me of me in ten years.
Kimberley: Rosie I liked your solo bit with the hand movements but boys you held your own. I think because you were enjoying it we all were too!
SUGABABES
So now the dances are over and we are treated to a performance by the Sugababes. They perform their latest single ‘Wear My Kiss’ and we have to admit, they do look better without hard faced Keisha. It’s just a pity that they aren’t great at singing live. As solo vocalists they would probably be very good, but as a group they just didn’t gel tonight, particularly during the more vocally challenging verses. It was all a bit car crash for us, let’s hope JLS do better.
Montage of clips….oh they all found it so hard, so challenging and Katy Brand loves to slap her bum….moving on.
JLS
This time last week we were fresh out of an amazing JLS concert in the Hammersmith Apollo and now we’re back to watching them on a small screen….*boo-hoo*. Tonight the boys sang their newest single ‘One Shot’ and we would tell the Sugababes to take note, however much as we love JLS, we don’t actually think they were singing live. Brilliantly polished dance routine though!
RESULT
So who will go through to the Let’s Dance final, we think it should be Rufus and Katy Brand but then last year we loved the Eastenders duo and they were almost first to be put out.
Going home are The Newsreaders, The Olympians, Snooker and Darts, yay! Still left Casualty and Holby, Katy Brand and Rufus Hound.
Rufus got the most public votes and will go through to the final, Katy and the medics face judgment by the panel. Frank votes for Katy, Jason votes for Holby/Casualty and Kimberley with the deciding vote sends Katy Brand through. The two people we wanted are through yay!
See you same time, same place next Saturday night!
