As fans of ITV2’s The Big Reunion will know, pop band Liberty X reformed for the show, and that of course meant that singer Michelle Heaton had to once again step into the spotlight to perform a number of the band’s former hits…
And in Liberty X’s heyday, Michelle was most often seen donning a clinging and revealing rubber catsuit, which she’s dusted off and is wearing once again, despite the fact that since she last wore it, she’s had a baby and a double mastectomy.
However, while speaking to TV Biz about how it felt to bare her flesh in the catsuit, Michelle revealed that it’s actually given her a lot of confidence about her body.
She said, “Trying to look my best again made for my speedy recovery.
“I didn’t have time to wallow and stay in bed.
“I feel very well and I don’t feel any different until I look in the mirror.”
Michelle of underwent the operation to remove both her breasts after she discovered she carried the BRCA2 cancer gene which meant that she had an 85% chance of getting breast cancer and 40% chance of ovarian cancer.
Of her decision to have the double mastectomy, Michelle wrote in her Closer magazine column last year, “I met with Miss Lee-Min Lai, the surgeon doing my double mastectomy, last week.
“I avoided doing any research, as I didn’t want to worry any more than I already do about the potential complications.
“Without going into the gory details, we’ve decided that the surgeons are going to try and keep my nipples, which is amazing.
“Sometimes you can’t, or you try to and the tissue dies. There’s a good chance I can keep them, but if the blood supply isn’t good enough, they won’t be able to.
“If I do keep them, they won’t have any sensation, but there will be less scarring, so fingers crossed.”
Michelle also revealed that she would be having implants during the op.
She continued, “I’ll get implants in the same operation,” and added, “For me, the biggest decision – to have the double mastectomy – was made quickly, I feel there’s no choice.”
And of her fears for her baby girl Faith, Michelle – who’s also starred in Celebrity Big Brother – said, “To live with this risk when I have a little baby and a family is not a risk I want to take.
“In my darkest moments, my biggest fear is leaving Faith…
“I’ll do whatever it takes to be here for my child – that’s the bottom line.
“The last thing I’d want is for her to grow up without her mum. But I’m stronger than I ever realised – I’ll come through this.”
What a brave woman! Here’s a reminder of Michelle talking about her decision to have the mastectomy…
