Between One Direction and Miley Cyrus, twerking has become something of a craze, and it’s apparently one that singer Lily Allen is keen to get in on…

In case you’re not familiar with the term, according to the Oxford Dictionary Online, to twerk is “to dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.”

Miley Cyrus rather stomach churningly – for me at any rate – demonstrated it in a recent performance with US pop star Robin Thicke. You can click here to read about that.

Anyway, back to Lily Allen and her leap onto the twerking bandwagon, The Sun reports that she’s hired six dancers to do the twerking for her for the music video that will accompany her new single, Hard Out Here…

A source close to Lily told the paper, “Lily’s back with a bang.

“Her plans have been closely guarded until now, but she’ll release a single before most people expected.

“Hard Out Here is a big pop single and her team expect it to be a massive hit — so Lily wanted a video that makes a statement.

“She hired six bikini-clad female dancers to twerk while pouring champagne over their bodies.

“It’s a jab at music videos made by pop stars like Rihanna and Miley Cyrus.”

However, the insider added, “Lily stays covered up while the under-dressed girls dance around her.

“It’s a video that will get a lot of people talking and announce in a big way that Lily’s back.”

The new single marks Lily’s welcome return to music after three-year absence, of which the paper adds, “She’s been working on her third album with collaborator Greg Kurstin, and Emeli Sande’s producer Naughty Boy.”
