Marbella Belles On ITV1
They’re bold, bronzed and bleached to their roots. Meet five British women who’ve turned their backs on the UK for the sun-kissed stretches of the Costa del Sol.
Marbella Belles - a new six part documentary series for ITV1 with narration from Dennis Waterman - gives a glimpse of life in that little bit of Spain that will be forever England.
All five women have different lives, but share one thing in common. They have escaped the high streets of Essex, London and Leeds to re-establish themselves along the rich golden mile in luxury resorts Marbella and Puerto Banus.
Among them is lady of leisure, Lisa Johnson, who has a one-year-old boy called Blue. Retirement has come early for the high maintenance Essex girl thanks to her husband’s hefty bank balance and round the clock help from maid, Lin-Lin. Lin-Lin sees to the less glamorous aspects of motherhood like changing Blue’s nappy and feeding him while 38–year–old Lisa keeps up to speed with her rigourous beauty schedule.
Louise Marriot owns the beauty salon that Lisa spends a lot of her time in - Posh - which stands for ‘P****d Off, Stressed & Hormonal’. Louise upped sticks and left Buckinghamshire for Marbella with her three children after a string of failed marriages and is now embarking on her second salon, 2 Posh, and a new romance with a very wealthy ex pat called Jeff.
With such wealth and exuberance it’s vital the belles look their best and Louise Truelove, or Truelove as she’s known, focuses her time on the more permanent side of cosmetic enhancement, as a patient co-ordinator for an exclusive plastic surgery clinic. Truelove moved to Spain after the love of her life left her for “a 53-year-old grandmother.”
Party girl Jo Alexandrou arrived in Spain six years ago for a holiday and ended up staying for good becoming a fixture on the Puerto Banus party circuit.
Reflecting on her first year on the Costa, Jo says: “We’ve got High Society magazine out here, like the Spanish ‘OK’ or ‘Hello’, and I was in it every month partying!”
And last but by no means least is Barbara Fawcett or ‘Barbs’, who arrived in Spain two years ago and owns posh café Madhatters, which serves up the best traditional English food. Barbs has never married and believes she will find her Mr Right on the Costa.
Marbella Belles provides a snapshot insight into what it’s like living the high life in the posh town of Puerto Banus, where designer shops and celebrity hideouts line every street and being preened and beautifully turned out is essential.
The women are determined to bag themselves a man with a loaded wallet. It’s a place to see and be seen – where a bad hairdo or a chipped nail is a cardinal sin!
They’ve run to the sun to better their lives but is life on the Costa all they thought it would be?

This program gives a totally distorted view of life on the costa del sol. We are british ex-pats and live her with our two young children. We have many more opportunities here for a better way of life than we had in the UK. Please be aware that the program makers have to show extremes in order to provide entertainment. I just hope that all those watching don’t truly believe this is a ‘normal life’ for the majority living here on the costa.

Just wanted to say that the tv show last night was a total distortion of real life here in Marbelle. The makers of the show must have chosen the lowest life of women here. I would be totally embarrassed if it were me to have to see myself portrayed like that.
Having said that, I will be watching all the shows so I can make a wide berth if I see these women!!!!!!

Most of these so called ‘women’ were just laughable and embarrassing to watch, however Lisa Johnson simply takes the biscuit. If she lived here I woule be reporting her to social services! There are millions of women in this world who would kill for children and she doesn’t even know how to change her baby’s nappy! The classic line had to be when handed her child ‘ooh ‘asn’t ‘e got ‘eavy! For the love of God woman let the nanny adopt him. Please don’t think everyone from Essex is like this because we are not!

This was a piece of quality TV, all over England people this morning are asking “are they for real?”. So few times these days does a piece of TV hold me spellbound for 30 minutes and I can’t wait for the next installment.

I taped this show and watched it the following morning with a cup of tea with my husband. Our mouths were open but nothing went in for the first 15 minutues (tea went cold)!!!!
I live in Marbella and actually recognised two of these women (of course not to speak to, and sure as hell would not want to). I can´t believe they put themselves up for this show. The TV producers must be rubbing their hands with glee. Of course its compelling viewing, but what about poor Alfie? He will never live it down at school today. As as for her being 38! She needs a serious face lift and a brain transplant would be useful.

I dont know about you guys but i thouht they were all morons but Lisa was something else!! She IS a bad mother -or at least portrayed to be, she didnt work but has a nanny (?) that poor baby Blue (dumb name but what do u expect), she said she dont do nappies and hasnt changed him herself in ages, she even said ‘aint he heavy’ when she picked him up and got ‘tired’ after a min of holding him and gave him to the nanny and said thats what shes there for. She ‘dont do’ mornings so doesnt take Alfie to school, she thought she was showing off by acting like Lady muck but she was actually just showing herself up and should be ashamed of herself-poor excuse for a woman AND a mother and if she is a good mother to her kids she certainly didnt show it she was acting like a spoilt 20 yr old that had just given birth!!!!!!!!!! AND LOUISE-whats she all about, she said she something about women looking at her as though shes gonna steal there husbands blah blah blah, well if she looked at me that way I would just laugh as she was a buck teeth old dog that wouldnt have a chance in hell with my husband!!!!!! HAHAHAHA, it was laughable at how dumb these women are!

If your friend Lisa is such a nice person and good mother, then only you know that. She portrayed herself in such a way that everyone is talking about her (not in a good way). I think your friend will regret doing this docu, as will the other girls.
Its a shame because the producers knew exactly what they were after, and of course yet again, its not them in the firing line.
I agree with Emma, they all cam over as vile and common. Any anyway, if Lisa’s hubby is worth that much money, why was she sitting by her “communual pool” and not in her multi-million euro villa???

Well I have to say I was totally disgusted… I live here in Spain and unfortunately the woman in this documentary live in the same area… If I know them or not I wouldn’t even admit to it… What I will say is that Lisa - “whats my boys name” must of been playing up to the camera. No one can be that selfish and self absorbed - if she’s 38 then for 36 I look like Elle McPherson ! As for the golddigging thing who thinks she’s a beautician the cleverest thing about her is the name of her shop ! Yes it is an unfortunate truth that there are women here on the coast that think they are 5 grand millionaires but more to the point are coke whores … For the rest of us especially the essex girls done good … At least we live in the real world know who our husbands are in bed with each night and earn our livings honestly ! What a disgrace these woman made of themselves… my my your husbands must be so proud and your parents mmmmm I think not !

Awesome Telly and I laughed so much with my daughter that we were still talking about it the next morning and calling each other “Lin, Lin” all the time. This is great telly and we’ll be watching this each episode. Dear little Blue is the only one we felt sorry for if Lisa was for real (which I very much doubt) but….if she is then she ought to have her own series..

I have been living in Marbella for 25 years, enjoy the sea, sun, country side and life style. Yes there is a very small percentage of the ENGLISH ex pat community here like that portrayed, but by far the majority are normal hardworking people like myself who left a country years ago going down the drain.This isn’t a Marbella problem it is an ENGLISH one,you will not find such programs about ex pat Italians,Swedes,Germans etc.like the rubbish shown the other night. Good viewing though, but total lies as I know of lisa and as far as I can see she is a good mother to Alfie and Blue and is only guilty of being suckered by the conn tactics of tv producers trying to create something out of nothing. I think shes a star and the only mugs are the people who believe this trash. They should carry on watching the Jeremy Vile (Kyle) show!

I have lived in Marbella for 10 years. I didn’t even see the programme but have already heard people talking about it … so it’s working. Sounds pretty typical of a certain sort of person you get down here. Gangster background - common as muck - totally thick - never as much money as they claim to have - and always at least 10 years older than they claim to be so always mutton dressed up as lamb. They are a sad bunch - these women on the programme are a prime example.

I am a nineteen-year-old girl living in Marbella. I left England four years ago and moved here with my family and after watching ‘Marbella Belles’ the other night, my family and I were absolutely horrified to see how the ex-pat community of Marbella are portrayed in this way. The women on the programme only represent a very small, but unfortunately evident contingent of Marbella. Not everyone here is like that. There are far more, normal, hard-working British people trying to make a life for themselves here in Spain.
The women on the programme, while perversely entertaining, do not speak for us all. I for one can enunciate all of my letters when speaking.

I have just come back from a week in marbella and i have to say althought the majority of the people i saw were well dressed, well behaved and spoken, there were a few british women similar to these who made me cringe. although it was only a small minority i feel these people are more likely to stick in peoples minds over there and give us british women such a tacky and horrible repuation. fake isnt good. and they all looked and acted fake.

Please everyone - wise up! Louise Truelove is going to dazzle us on Tuesday night with a web of lies and deceit. My husband and I picked up the pieces in London for that girl in 2005 and shipped her to Marbella to try to help her. She left behind a 6 figure debt run up purely out of overspending not “bad luck”, she squeezed a small fortune out of the boyfriend who had the sense to dump her and she bled us dry. I have never helped anyone so much in my life and been so kicked in the teeth. She portrays the total trashy side of Marbella which in the 17 years we have a house there we have never been party to. She is a total fake with a complete fake story of her life which she peddles out including a mother whom she claims was to be “sectioned” under the mental health act! Utter rubbish - he mother is a superior and charming person unworthy of a rubbish daughter like Louise. I agree with previous writers - this series is cringe making and is not what Marbella is about. Louise has changed beyond all recognition and has beceome part of the unfortunate trashy image of Marbella which is just not the truth. She is evidenly out to make money - shame she doesn’t pay off her debts in England.

Must admit I was quite surprised to see Jeff as the millionair. Past his car dealership last week , and there was only a very old BMW 7 series and a Seat Ibiza displayed outside. Very far from The Bentleys and Porsches that normally were displayed there. By the way POSH has closed and 2 POSH hasen’t opened. Apprently she is working from home now. Re: Truelove as she is apparently now called - she has NO experience of being a “practitioner” in a cosmetic surgery but they seem to allow her to “meddle” with people’s bodies. She finds it amusing “I should be a lesbian” to fiddle around with other people’s boobs. How horrible is that? She did not lose 3 or even 4 stone in weight - I was with her when she was “dumped” (sensible man) and she lost at most a stone. This however is a minor lie compared with all the other whoppers she told!! I don’t think I can bear to watch the parade of untruths tomorrow night.

I’ve not seen the programme as I am one of the few brits living on the Costa del Sol who doesn’t have satellite television. Unfortunately, there are women in Marbella who are like that, not all but some. They are ignorant,self obsessed and shallow. Like attracts like and that’s why they are all friends, I guess.I am someone who takes pride in their appearance but I find that whole Marbella look and image trashy, boring and dated.Lay the Marbella Dynasty/Dallas era to rest, move on and get a life is what I would say to these silly women.

Well the second programme was on last night… why oh why did I bother to watch it … “Truelove” looks like a drag queen… 6′2 and build like a brick a Sh*t house ! doesn’t give a good advert for Mills & Mills cosmetic surgery does it ! What a nasty cow what did she say when her little friend got drunk who bless her heart could only have been in her early 20’s “Oh darling this is Marbella not Falaraki” - oh sod off you sanctimonious old trout no wonder your other half left you if you talk to people like crap… Apparently POSH is looking for staff ! Why doesn’t that suprise me… and heard through the gossip along the coast that Lisa ” oh the baby’s getting wet” Twathead is a lottery winner… says it all really… Money can’t buy class…. This was the first episode I had seen. Horrific! As someone who knows Marbella well this was a disgrace. These women should hang their heads in shame. They are very thick, exceptionally unattrative, and a disgrace to to women in general and Marbella in particular. Lisa is beyond comment. who on earth would go anywhwere near the Posh salon where the very ill tempered staff have to be instructed about the basics of how to file a nail, or go anywhere near “Truelove” (that is an absurd and ridiculous name) to have their boobs pushed around by a wannabe lesbian? If she is an advert for how to look good, God help us all and her clinic in particular. As for the bars and restaurants -there are thankfully many others not featured where decent folk can go. This group of “friends” should stick togther - who else would want to know them? The only one who is slightly better than the rest and should get some distance from the others as fast as possible is Barbs.

I think you are right, I know barbera and she is a real grafter and extremely nice person. I think you can see that in the show. She does not compare to that disgusting man in drag Truelove. Somebody has commented that she has been a liar in the past. Well all I can say is she still is lying because obviously it’s a bloke, as for posh she like her boyfriend are history down here.Another Brit coming here on a wing and a prayer and before you ask no I am not English. Just an angry Marbelli who has to listen to so many brits saying that this show has destroyed Marbella.Do you Brits not realise that the show is there to entertain, Marbella and it’s population is not just about the Brits how arrogant to think that. Marbella will thrive with or without you but at the same time welcomes you.Anyone can come here and if they want to they can see the real Marbella meet the real people, and live the real life like I and my whole family do. Steve, Marbella is Marbella. Spain is Spain. It’s not considered a joke by the rest of Europe for nothing, you know. Countries like the UK need somewhere to dump their unwanted dregs and Spain is the perfect option. We tried Greece and Turkey but they got wise to what the decent folks in the UK were up to (getting rid of the chavs). Some of the Spanish may be honest and hard working but they’re in the minority, sadly. Perhaps you should consider why Spain has never never been such an economic powerhouse like Germany or the UK? Enjoy your run in the mountains and I hope you don’t get mugged by a peasant looking for an easy target.

Realist, all I can say is get real. The Uk is a power in decline, selling everything off from cars to banks,(Abbey to Santander,Spanish Bank) Germany too is having great difficulties after unifying.I personally don’t think Spain has done too badly since they have emerged from a dictatorship in 76. I think you have missed the thread totally, we are not talking about the dishonest Spaniard which I agree there are plenty, but about certain english ex pats who have made a rather amusing program and too many people are sticking it on marbella in general which is unfair. In fact I am at this moment in a very nice restaurant in pueto banus, yes there are some, it is full of every nationality and they are normal including the english. but that wouldn’t sell tv time would it. By the way all I met on my run was a goat herder who bid me good morning.

I knew Geoff when he was happily married with a beautiful wife and two beautiful sons. It is so sad to see this programme knowing it is being broadcast in the UK at a time when his beautiful wife and two beautiful sons (estranged) are struggling to make a life for themselves in the UK. His sons attended Kings College in Marbella but were told they had to leave as their school fees had not been paid - can you imagine? They now attend state school in the UK but as they had such a grounded upbringing from their mother, they have settled in quite well. Sadly, they are of ‘no fixed abode’ at present as they have brought none of the luxeries they afforded in Marbella with them and Geoff has ‘no money’ to support his sons.

AS for car cloning - You better get your facts straight. for your information Linda decided to go back to the UK and she still has a home here in Marbella which we are selling and she is getting all the money from.
The Biggest issue is here is the port rail is total wrong especially for Louise who has worked so hard hear to establish a business and succeeded for the last 4 years and has had it blown away over this TV program, She has never stolen anybody from there husbands quite the contrary and is extremely protective of her Daughters she asl has a very nice family home in the UK and has no debts at all wrong girl.

Sadly i left the ITV on after the football - and as a result was exposed to this garbage. Not a good representation of Marbella - but a small glimpse into the sad world of these sadder people. The production company should be ashamed also - another brainless TV show made for the brainless on the brainless. These idiots (I include the TV production company ) have no idea of what a fantastic place this is and what is on offer here. I suspect they never will. I will be sure to turn my TV off next time. Obviously the production company has done their homework and picked the 5 worsy woman they could find to make the show more entertaining. I dont seem to see what everyones problem is the media hype is making the show a roaring success and the Marbella tourism will only benefit from this.
As for Jeff. Man you must have seriously been having a dry patch. Why the hell would you want to be with an ugly bint like that. I dont know who is sadder the people that watch the show to complain or you Jeff for not noticing an ugly golddigger. Wake up smell the roses and place the bint back on the street corner where you found her.

Having witnessed Louise M in action screaming and swearing at Geoff in his restaurant several weeks ago I´m not surprised that she has no staff for her so called salons!!. Nobody wants to work for her or even be around her. Whatever staff she’s had only last a few days because of that foul mouth and temper of hers. The show she put on at Geoffs restaurant Jaipur Purple was spectacular, which by the way is the best Indian Restaurant
on the coast and the staff are lovely. Geoff, please open your eyes, get out before its to late. Nobody deserves that!

I for one think the show is amazing , a real laugh. Although it deeply saddens me however to see louses name slandered as she is a great personal friend of mine. I always speak very highly of her and hold her in the highest regard. She has always helped me mentally and emotionally through thick and thin. And has always been the first person that I can rely on. She has a thriving professional buissness which is very popular hear on the costa del sol. Unfortunatly the program has done her no justice and has covered up her true personality. I do not wish to get into an argument over this,only to try and justify the show and defend one of the highest qualified bueatitions on the costa del sol. I only wish I have succeeded in defending and sticking up for a very close friend as she has repetadly done for me in the past.

AS for car cloning - You better get your facts straight. for your information Linda decided to go back to the UK and she still has a home here in Marbella which we are selling and she is getting all the money from.

Cannot undestand that these silly vacant common women think that they are living the life of “the rich and famous!” Regina’s is nowhere near the best restaurant in Marbella, Babs fries eggs for a living and can’t afford a boat, Louise Marriott can’t get her business expanded through lack of money, Truelove is clutching at straws having discounted surgery (that poor Italian guy was on mission impossible to improve her last night!) and has moved her very scared looking (well you would be wouldn’t you with her!)toyboy into her very un posh flat, drives around in a faded BMW and Lisa lives in not the best area in a flat with a communcal pool. Jo drives all the way to Gibraltar to buy sheets on the cheap. Having false nails, big false boobs, a fake tan and a big mouth is not “living the life.” Anyone can go down to Peurto Banus and drink at the bars - it is not expensive. Let’s see them in some decent clothes for once maybe having dinner at the Marbella Club but of course it would be hard for them to know how to behave there and how to dress in an elegant non tarty way. Who on earth would invite them in the first place?!They really are the most awful bunch of women we have had thrust onto us on TV for a long time!! I only watch so I can leap to the defence of Marbella as intelligent people know the place is not like this and they are not representative.

I will say it one more time just to burst your “little bubble”. Marbella is full of hard working, respectable ex-pats of every nationality including British which I am not.I have a multitude of friends from the UK living here as they would there, perefectly normally. The people portrayed in this program are sensational and do not represent the vast majority of british people here. In fact they do not even represent themselves as I know one of the ladies and while she might be crude and irresponible on the TV in real life she is the perfect mother to her sons.You in fact should be looking towards your own country and the reasons why they choose to make programs such as this to knock your own people. We from the rest of Europe are laughing at you not Marbella, we in Marbella didn’t make this program, you in England did. I for one look at it as entertainment, nothing more. I saw 30 marbella belles last night, they were in a restaurant raising hell all dressed up as angels and one had a huge plastic mans p…s attached to her head. They were all drunk and extremely rude and abusive to me, I am a Spanish waiter and I can speak 2 languages. I see dees peeple every week in the place I work so I do not understand why people are so amazed at this silly program. Of course I am sure that the editing on this programme has portrayed the ladies on this programme in a far worse light than what they normally are.
Nevertheless some of the behaviour witnessed has been embarrassing and tarnishes the image of most Brits who are decent people.
Lisa has come off the worst as she continued to smoke and drink when pregnant and then sadly lost her child.
What will not help their cause are people rushing to defend them on here who appear to be completely illiterate!

This towrag of a woman has a long string of fraud, deceptions, and theft from decent people who were initially unaware of her nasty and unlawful ways. Marriot is bereft of morals, steals other folk’s belongings, fails to pay bills and swears like a true moronic lunatic.
Her good points? She is out of the UK, and unlikely to return, as it is most likely that the VAT lads et al are after her dues.
I’d give her a further month or so with luckless Geoff, before he finally discovers what a TRUE SUCKER he has been. Geoff IS a decent sort - just vulnerable now.

Yes it was very entertaining and even a little sad (for all the poor children involved) but life goes on here in Marbella. And everywhere else. Nowhere’s perfect but I think life is what you make it and here you can do well if you work hard and mix with the right people. Of all the 6 shows the comments that stick most are the ones L M made to her poor daughter when she arrived at the airport. How can you not see your child for six bloody months when Easy Jet is SO cheap?? She looked like a lovely girl. Good luck to all of them and keep smiling Jo! We love you. Actually, I have met her and she is a really lovely person.

got to agree with wonder,LM needs to get her prioritys sorted out,not the way to greet your child at the airport maybe she prefers to look natural with her own hair etc, just a thought………………

How great to see the TV critic - Jaci Stephen, Mail on Sunday - slate this horrendous programme. She is right - “a load of vacuous plastic women talking about nothing.” Lord defend us from any more useless info about Truelove’s huge big blue veined boobs let alone any more close ups of them squashed into tiny tops that a cute 20 year old should be wearing - quite disgusting - does she think this makes her a Marbella Belle?? She should check out what the word Belle means - they all should, becsuse none of them have anything going for them in that department let alone in the personality area. They should all check into that cosmetic clinic and get a face transplant!!! Hopefully we never have to hear that screeching common voice of Jo’s aagain or listen to her cheap boring shopping trips buying stuff for herself - who cares? Or see the truly failed swearing “business woman” Louise and her incompetent dispirited salon staff - useless as a mother too it seems. Only eclipsed by the utterly utterly awful “Lisa” with a mouth like a sewer and a face to match. Poor poor Lin Lin and that beautiful little baby boy whose name she can’t remember. Even Jaci Stepehn agress with comments above that Barbara should not be aligning herself with this stupid ignorant charmless bunch of depressing ‘past it’ women. The men in their lives must be really really desperate!!!

@Asheley: Sorry to disappoint you but the producers have already been back to Marbella and plans are afoot to film a 2nd series in the Autumn/Fall. There’ll be a change to some of “the Belles” but doubtless the replacements will be equally entertaining.
And what’s wrong with oggling someone’s tits if they want to show ‘em to the camera ?
