Max Clifford talks about Jade Goody on GMTV

Max Clifford revealed on GMTV that Jade Goody has had a ‘good night’s sleep’ after doctors brought her pain under control.

Below is the full transcript of Max Clifford’s interview with GMTV’s Andrew Castle:

Andrew Castle: We’re joined now by Jade’s spokesperson and friend – it has to be said – Max Clifford, who’s at his home in Surrey. Max, very good morning to you, I don’t know if you can give us the very latest this morning – have you spoken to her?

Max Clifford: No, she’s asleep I’m glad to say. The most important thing Andrew is that they got the pain under control last night when she got into the Marsden, and she’s managed to have a good night’s sleep, which is something that she hasn’t had for a few days.

AC: So Max, was it surgery last night, or perhaps today, or is there no need this time?

MC: I think that what they said to her in the hospice – she phoned me yesterday to say, you know – she was in terrible pain, she was sobbing. And what they had said to her was that we think you need surgery to remove the blockage in the bowel which is causing this pain. And then the ambulance came and she went to the Marsden, so obviously the intention, as far as we were concerned was, that they would operate to try and clear the blockage. Obviously it hasn’t happened yet, whether it’s going to happen today? I imagine Andrew that they’ll take a view once she’s there and decide, you know, what they can do, what’s the best thing for her.

AC: And will the boys go into to see her today, and perhaps her husband Jack as well?

MC: Well, I mean obviously Jack is meant to be in court this morning, but, you know, she’ll see the boys as much as she can. I mean they came they came to see her when she was in the Marsden. And as she said to me yesterday, when she was sobbing, ‘Max, all I want to be is at home with the boys.’ So hopefully the boys will be able to get in to see her – providing she’s well enough, and of course if she’s out of pain. They don’t want to be there if Mum is sobbing and in terrible pain, as you can imagine.

AC: No. Will she still be able to go home as previously expected?

MC: Andrew we hope so. That’s what she wants to do. I mean the interesting thing is – that her story now is worldwide. I’m getting enquiries every hour from Australia, America, all over South America, from Europe. So everyone is saying the same thing, ‘How is she? And what’s happening and how is she getting on?’ It’s become a worldwide story which is amazing really when you think, this little girl from Bermondsey. But she just wants to be at home, and she just wants to be at home with the kids and obviously with Jack.

AC: Is she still, I mean obviously with the pain that she’s in and the suffering that she’s going through, is she still happy about the decision that she has taken to open up this experience to everybody. I mean, you know, the attention on the boys, the attention with Jack, the attention on her at a time where some would feel very uncomfortable with that. I mean some would say, ‘Well this is a private affair.’ Is she still comfortable with her decision to go so public?

MC: Yes. I mean I think that she’s comfortable and has been comfortable so far, particularly because so many young women all over Britain are now having cervical cancer smears. So she knows that potentially she’s saving an awful lot of young lives from what happened to her. In terms of what happens – Andrew, as I said to you before, it’s purely up to what she wants to do. If she says, ‘I’ve had enough, I don’t want anymore,’ then it stops straightaway. And don’t forget she’s done 3 interviews in the last month. Everything else I’m handling. All the enquiries that coming from all over the world – they’re not bothering her – I’m the one that’s dealing with it. So…but it will be Jade’s decision. If she wants to do another interview, and she did last week, then she will. If she doesn’t, then she won’t. It’s as simple as that.

AC: She’s got a good man in her court. Max, thanks for joining us this morning.

MC: Thank you.

Good luck to Jade is all I can say and nobody has the right to judge her in anyway whatsoever. Perhaps being in the spotlight makes her feel safe, that with it there she cannot die. I know I often think when I am doing something normal like going into work, how can anybody die with people around them? This may be a ridiculous conclusion but the human condition is a very strange one at the best of times. Jade is a young woman with a young family and any nasty comments directed at her come from people of little education and hearts of poison. Bless her and keep her children from anything hurtful in the future months. As a mother and grandmother I send all the love in the world to her entire family.
