Olympics Closing Ceremony provides huge boost to record sales for One Direction, John Lennon, the Spice Girls, Emeli Sande, Elbow, Queen, Kate Bush, George Michael and The Who
After last night’s Olympic Closing Ceremony it seems that many of us were rushing to download tracks from many of the big named performers.
One Direction, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah and Queen were among the musical stars who were showcased during last night’s event, which was watched by more than a billion viewers all around the world.
Gennaro Castaldo of hmv says many of those watching headed straight to their laptops to get a copy of many of the big tunes.
“With British music at the heart of the Closing Ceremony it’s likely we’ll see another surge in album sales of many of the feautred artists,” he explained, adding:
“We won’t fully know who the big winners are ’til later in the week, but based on initial fan reaction and downloads we’re seeing a great deal of interest in John Lennon, the Spice Girls, Emeli Sande, Elbow, Queen, Kate Bush, George Michael and The Who to name a few.”
“We also expect the official soundtrack to the closing ceremony, ‘A Symphony of British Music’ to be one of the big sellers over the next few weeks as the British public seeks to hang onto the feel-good factor generated by the games, especially once the CD hits record shops in a few days time.
“With its huge appeal to sports fans and people of all ages desperate to keep alive the abiding memories of London 2012 and the stunning feats of TeamGB, the Official BBC highlights, which are due out later this year on DVD, already looks set to be the no.1 gift item for this Christmas.”
