Omid Djalili thought Splash was a ‘driving show’
What made you decide to sign up for Splash!?
I didn’t know what it was – I thought it was a driving show! No, the producers rang the when I was in the middle of a detox, I’d already lost half a stone in six days – and I’d never been hungrier in my life! So I thought, “I’ll do this and just carry on losing weight. If I’m going to take my clothes off in public, why not do it off a 10-metre board in front of millions of people on ITV?”
How have you found the training?
It’s hard! I could ruin my reputation doing this, so I really want to do it properly. The problem is when you dive of one of the higher boards; if you get the tiniest thing wrong, it really hurts. Every time I do it, it’s a shock to the system. It feels as if all the organs of my body moving around. I’m aching all the time because my body is taking such a hit. But having said all that, I’m still really enjoying it!
How does diving feel?
It’s very exhilarating, but it can also be very painful. Someone told me when I dived off the 7.5 metre board that I looked like hungry pig flying through the air into a massive trough! I landed on my face and let off a nuclear mushroom of splash. I was so stunned I was flying through the air that I forget to protect myself when I landed. But everyone laughed when I came out of the water so I hope that when I throw myself off a high board in the live shows, people will at least be entertained!
