As we reported this week, the One Direction lads, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, will be the latest subject of a practical joked played by presenting duo Ant and Dec on their show, Saturday Night Takeaway…
However, after it was reported that as part of the prank, Dec posed as an uber fan who’d collapsed while seemingly struggling to breathe – prompting the band members, and particularly Harry to call for an ambulance – fans took to Twitter to vent their outrage at the “tasteless” joke.
So after a flurry of angry messages, Entertainmentwise report that Dec took to Twitter to say, “Just to clarify, following press stories today, the 1D sketch on this Saturday’s #SNT does NOT feature an asthma attack…
“I play an excited fan who hyperventilates on meeting his heroes and is seen by a medic.
“There is no reference to asthma whatsoever.
“It is not the main theme of the ‘Undercover’ hit and only a very small part of the overall piece.
“I hope that clears things up. D”
Of the jape, Ant told the Mirror, “The ruse was that 1D’s biggest fans had flown in to meet them.
“Dec dressed up as one called Jack from New Zealand and I was Ben, a TV host from there. I introduced him to the group – and the meeting didn’t go as planned.
“But they fell for it.”
Dec added, “On the 1D tour they met two fans from every nation.
“We heard the only two who didn’t go were from New Zealand and thought, ‘This is our way in’.
“We were all over them.”
What do you think? Was it just a harmless prank? Or was it in poor taste?
For now, here’s a reminder of Ant and Dec duping another unsuspecting celeb…
