One Direction 2013: Group named ‘Worst Band’ and Harry Styles branded ‘Villain of the Year’ & Jake Bugg weighs in!

One Direction in US charts

One Direction have been named ‘Worst Band’ at this year’s NME Awards while Harry Styles has come out on top in the ‘Villain of the Year’ category.

The former X Factor contestants РNiall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles Рfought off stiff competition in their category from acts including Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Alt-J, Mumford & Sons and Muse at the awards in London on Wednesday night.

Harry was up against American musician Skrillex, South Korean pop sensation Psy, Fred Macpherson of band Spector, singer Azealia Banks and British Prime Minister David Cameron in his ‘Villain’ category.

Justin Bieber, who was named as ‘Villain of the Year’ last year, failed to get a nomination this year.

One Direction have previously won the ‘prize’ before after taking home the award for ‘Worst Band’ last year.

Fellow singer Jake Bugg criticised the band at the awards, saying: “I don’t know how they can really be considered a band, to be honest. They’re there to look good. Music wise? I assume they don’t really have a clue.

“We’ll just see. They might do. Probably the ugliest one is the best singer. He might know a couple of chords.”

However, One Direction star Harry Styles didn’t seem bothered by either of the awards and admitted he thought it was all good fun.

He previously told the Daily Mirror: “I hope I win. You’ve got to take the rough with the smooth but I don’t really feel like I’ve done anything bad. Should be fun!”

He tweeted last night saying:

“And thank you to @NME for my award tonight. Gotta take the rough with the smooth eh?”

Bugg needed a new headline, and the press is providing him one… No idea how it’s going to play out long term though.

People should not take the NME so seriously, especially the worst one: look at the nominees, all successfull mainstream and pop acts!
the villain category was always intended as a joke IMHO.

And no idea why my 1st comment is awaiting moderation, so there might be a double post :-)

This is the world we live in…the world where people highlight negativity towards another artist/artists rather than just congradulating them on their success. I mean seriously, who gives out an award to the worst band, and villain of the year? The producers of the NME awards have some slight issues…

Who are these people who think they are in a position to judge anyone? Do they have millions of fans world wide? They are just jealous of other peoples status.
