The nominations have only just been revealed and already the 2014 Grammy Awards have been causing controversy online.
It’s one of the biggest events on the showbiz calendar but the nominations have been making news today more for who ins’t mentioned than who is, as some of the best selling artists of 2013 were missing from the list.
One Direction were awarded the accolade of having the fastest selling album of the year in the UK last month, after the release of their third studio record Midnight Memories but their name doesn’t appear on the list.
Miley Cyrus has taken the top two spots in Vevo’s most watched music videos of 2013, with her hit songs Wrecking Ball and We Can’t Stop. Her Bangerz album took the number one spot in charts around the globe and she has probably been the most talked about artist this year too, after her MTV VMA and EMA performances.
Justin Bieber has been making news after he began his weekly release of tunes at the beginning of each week in November. Music Mondays has seen tunes such as “Heartbreaker”, , “All That Matters”, “Hold Tight”, “Recovery”, “Bad Day” and “All Bad” selling hundreds of thousands of copies but yet he too stands no chance of taking a Grammy next year.
Fans have been kicking off on Twitter all day over the snubs and one posted:
“HOW ON EARTH DIDNT JUSTIN GET NOMINATED FOR A GRAMMY, SMH AND OTHER NEW/RUBBISH ARTISTS DID. I give up on whoever decides this.”
“How was Justin NOT nominated for a grammy but Lorde? MY HEAD HURTS FROM THIS RUBBISH”
“I think that its rubbish that Justin is not nominated for a grammy. His got mad talent and has worked hard. He deserves a grammy.”
One Direction fans were no more happy and @OhThe1DFandom tweeted:
“so one direction didn’t get nominated for grammy…..ok well congrats u will lose 985467234283 views 🙂 @TheGRAMMYs”
“I’m sorry but how was One Direction, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber all not nominated for a grammy… they the most famous people out there”
@therealmohammad simply stated: “The Grammy nominations are more of a joke than they’ve ever been.”
@alexandergold thinks the televised ceremony will lose support and viewers as a result and tweeted:
“The Grammy nominations are garbage. No Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato or One Direction? LOL OK HAHA BYE.”
“This years grammy is a joke…like I thought they would have at least nominated Miley bc she slayed 2013 but no. Like i’m so done rn”
