PETA Brand Steve Irwin ‘Cheap Reality Star’
“A cheap reality star. For years many have loved watching Steve Irwin aka the Crocodile Hunter. You would think the world would be morning his death.
Not quite so. It seems PETA is not so upset by his death. According to Dan Mathews, “He made a career out of antagonizing frightened wild animals. He concluded with the statement above of Steve being just a cheap reality star. Hey PETA, how about a little compassion?

Yes Steve Irwin did antagonise frightened animals like a real life Bart Simpson. However he did not request to be given zoological prizes for his programmes.
His antics will have encouraged some people to be disrespectful to wildlife and animals as they see his antics as funny.
But that man gave loads of dosh back to the animals and wildlife, which I know still does not make his behaviour right.
But he was also not an academic man, he was a basic fella who loved reptiles and was possibly Fxxxxing suprised that anyone paid him to do what he loved.
Cant PETA chase some great organisation like Macdonalds instead, or is the company just to big for them to attack.
PETA are not only being insensitive, but only cowards attack those who cant answer back. I’m just glad they werent that familiar with Barbara Woodhouse “the dog trainer” when she was alive. They would have executed her.
Dawn says but she could be wrong.

Great points. I find the reports of sting-rays being found mutilated as shocking. As if Steve would want that. It’s too bad this whole thing has turned into a media circus despite what the Irwin family wishes.

Sometimes people sadly just miss the point of an issue completely, but thats not Steve’s fault totally.
Steve had a immense but unusual passion for wildlife, but a lot of viewers just had a passion for Steve Irwin , they could not care less about the animals on his programme. As if you asked many of the people about the animals featured on his programmes they wouldnt have a clue about them, as they werent listening.
I do believe many people saw Steve as Crocodile Dundee , he was a cartoon character to millions, not a real person. The TV made him into a parody of himself.
I didnt like him dangling his baby in front of a croc or getting so close and intimate to wildlife.
Simply because you are bound to get those “fans” who copy TV, think its all too simple and when they get eaten, mauled, stung, bitten etc. Their “natural” reaction would be to kill the animal in revenge. Which has happened with the stingray.
If a dog bites us we call for it to be put down , even if we stick our hands in its mouth. If we get mauled by wildlife we want to wipe out the species. This is what PETA fear, I think.
People will no doubt copy Steve’s approach to dealing with wildlife and this is not building a “respect your wildlife message”, but a man has been killed, someone has lost their husband/son and small children have lost their father.
IF PETA solely love animals and show no empathy towards fellow humans such as Steve’s family, its a very mixed message they are sending.
I wasnt a big fan of steve, but a big supporter of PETA. STEVE did a lot of good for all his faults, PETA are being purposely blinkered and obtuse. So many organisations and high profile people disrespect animals and wildlife .IT is unsettling that PETA have lumped him with the fur-wearing offenders and non-conservationists.
If PETA are going to put Steve Irwin on their blacklist, what hope is there for the rest of us.
I have cats, so PETA might object to me 1) keeping domesticated animals and 2)feeding them the by-products of dead animals (CATFOOD and kitty nibbles).
I love David Attenborough and he has educated me more on wildlife than school lessons ever did and I studied biology A’level.
I will never forget the time a Gorilla lunged at David Attenbourough, while he was softly narrating and he scarpered for his life.
Now if that was Steve Irwin, he would have wrestled the Gorilla and in minutes he would have been riding the Gorillla like a rodeo horse shouting
” look a this, its gone wild fellas”.
I wont miss Steve manhandling his wildlife, but I will miss him as a person.
Dawn thinks so anyway

I have to admit, I never watched much of Steve while on TV, but I was saddened to hear of his death. I never really thought of what he did as antagonizing animals, but again I never watched to many of his shows. When I heard the news story of him holding his son around the croc, I thought he was no better than Michael Jackson holding his son over the balcony. But no matter what, I truly respected the guy for putting himself into so much danger. It seems he thrived on it.
That being said, he certainly wasn’t just a cheap ‘reality star’. If they want that, send Princess Nikki to wrestle a crocodile. LOL

Nikki wrestling with a crocodile, that I could watch!
