Peter Andre Biography
Peter Andre will soon be starring in his newest reality show: Katie And Peter The Next Chapter on ITV2
Peter Andre was born in London and had a respectable family upbringing. They emigrated to Queensland, Australia, when he was just 6 years old. Peter, from a Greek background with dark hair and dark eyes, suffered racism and bullying when they arrived there and he used music to escape. It was during these times that Peter found his voice and composed his first song aged just 13!
At the tender age of 16, Peter was offered a record deal live on-air on Australia’s popular hit TV show ‘New Faces’. This was the first time in the show’s history that they had signed up anyone live on air! It was then with a sheer determination and persistence that Peter finally made his mark upon the music business. At the age of 19, Peter had his first hit in Australia with Gimme A Little Sign. In the following year, Peter received numerous national awards in Australia for outstanding musical achievements and was subsequently honoured with having the highest selling record of the decade!
Peter’s singing career went from strength to strength and at the age of 23, Peter was chosen to be a special guest performer for the Madonna and the Bobby Brown concert tours. This exposure led to new opportunities for Peter and a trip to the UK to write and record music for a wider market. His single Flava, released in 1996, made Peter the first Australian male artist to have had a single debut in the UK singles chart at number 1. He followed this success with another 3 top 5 hits which included 2 number 1’s, giving Peter a total of 11 top 10 hits worldwide!
Peter’s most successful single was Mysterious Girl, which sold over 2 million copies in the UK! His next single I Feel You also entered the charts at number 1 and following on from this came his eagerly awaited first UK album, Natural, which also debuted at number 1. The ever growing chart success was leading to major tours throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. Peter’s life-long dream was achieved at the pinnacle of his career in the summer of 1997, when he performed a sell-out concert at London’s Wembley Arena, close to where he was born.
With a multitude of national and international awards to his credit, Peter became the sixth highest selling artist in the UK during the 90’s, grossing over £20 million from record and merchandising sales. Peter’s rise to fame was unfortunately accompanied with violence and death threats which led him to spiral into a severe depression, thus making Peter step away from the music spotlight in the year 2000 to recover.
Peter returned to our screens in 2004 when he participated in ITV1’s “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” This is where Peter’s life changed as he met Katie Price, who was to become his wife. The UK audience watched as they fell in love and have followed their relationship closely ever since! While on the show the public and a national radio show petitioned for the re-release of his hit single Mysterious Girl this resulted in another number 1 hit and a sell out tour which led to another album. Peter Andre was once again firmly established in the public eye as the star he had always been.
Due to the public’s interest after the show, Peter and Katie Price were followed closely by a camera crew during the rest of 2004, to create the intriguing ‘fly on the wall’ documentary When Jordan met Peter which aired on ITV1. This revealed not only the secrets behind the pairs’ very separate careers, but also the development of their personal relationship together. This was followed by Jordan and Peter: Laid Bare, which screened on ITV1 and ITV2 in January 2005. A 2nd series named Marriage and Mayhem also appeared on both channels and featured their high profile wedding day and surrounding events. Katie and Peter married in September 2005 with it subsequently being called the wedding of the decade! Their wedding featured in OK! Magazine and sold over 2 million copies in just 6 days in the UK alone, thus breaking all records! With their series being such a success they have signed a multi-million pound golden hand cuffs deal with ITV for the next 2 years.
Peter’s album The Long Road Back was released in 2004; it accompanied a sell out tour and a number 1 song. Peter’s last single Loved you the Right Way came out on 6th September 2004 and was another big hit. The video was filmed in black & white and was shot on a beautiful beach and includes footage of Peter and Katie together.
2005 saw Peter writing and recording new material, both in the UK and in America, and performing several intimate gigs around the country as well as some festival appearances. Peter was also involved with more TV work, from presenting on various TV shows, to being ‘made over’ with prosthetics for a show called, Celebrity Age Swap.
Peter released his autobiography in September 2006 and has been in the top five bestsellers list. For the three weeks following the release of the book Peter embarked on a successful book tour which took him all around the country to meet thousands of loyal and devoted fans, men and women of all ages. Peter is a regular in the press, often featuring in newspapers and magazines.
Peter was of course back on the stage with his wife at the end of last year when they released their charity duets album A Whole New World. The eagerly awaited album was released in November 2006 and sold over 150,000 copies in 3 months in the UK alone. The album consisted of covers of upbeat classics and love songs as well as songs written by Peter himself. Their single of the same title was released in December 2006 and reached number 12 in the single charts. All the proceeds from the album went to Peter and Katie’s five chosen charities in the UK, for which they raised a substantial amount of money. During the release Peter and Katie travelled the country doing signings and gigs and also performed live on shows including the Royal Variety Performance.
After meeting Katie Price, Peter’s life changed. He is now back in the UK and is one of the most popular men in Britain today and is one half of Europe’s favourite couples. Peter has become a father figure for Katie’s son Harvey, who he adores and treats like his own, and a proud dad of the couple’s first child Junior. They are expecting their third child this summer.
Peter, now 34, is a singer with an exceptional voice and pin up looks. His enduring popularity pays testament to his genuine personality. He loves music, cooking and keep fit and loves married and family life! His love and devotion for Katie and his children alongside his handsome looks and respectful ways has made him the envy of many men and the ideal man to thousands of women. Peter and his family recently met the Queen at a privileged ceremony. Peter is cherishing every moment he has back in the limelight and believes it’s even better the second time round.
