Rachel Tucker Leaves I’d Do Anything

Rachel Tucker, tonight, narrowly missed out on the chance to perform the role of Nancy on a West End stage.

Even after an AMAZING performance of Caberet on last night’s show, and wowing Barry Humphries in tonight’s acting task, Rachel ended up in the sing for the third time.

I suppose that it didn’t matter how she sang that song, Lloyd Webber couldn’t really save her again.

Tonight’s decision just shows how little these shows actually depend on talent and how important it is to be liked. Rachel was by far the best girl for the role of Nancy. She not only had the vocal skills, but she is the only girl who has succeeded week after week in the acting challenges. However, she is one of the more reserved girls, and whilst we feel like we know a lot about the other three, Rachel was still very much a closed book.

Should this have made a difference? My opinion is a resounding no! But obviously it did. People very often vote for who they like, and who they feel sorry for and tonight, that just wasn’t Rachel.

The silver lining of course is that Rachel will probably do very well despite tonight’s loss. She will no doubt have a fistful of job offers by the end of the week and she has had the sort of nationwide exposure that she only could have dreamt of before. It’s just a shame that she had to leave before next weeks final. I don’t know who to support now………

Absolutely agree that Rachael should not have gone tonight. Was amazing to see smile wiped off Samantha’s face for a minute and it wasn’t pretty. Now she looks as smug as ever, knowing that the panel will be trying to swing it her way next week. I’ll be voting for the lovely Jodie.

  2. Fiona says:

I think the wrong person was put out of i’d do anything tonight.Rachel for me was far superiour than samantha.
My vote next week goes to Jodie.

  3. Rowena Webb says:

How could Andrew knock Rachel out?
Not only did she perform the best in the acting role this week, but Samanatha received the least viewers votes! This confirms why I had reservations when I heard Denise, this week, say that men will fancy Samantha and the ladies like her – how untrue! I just can’t warm to her, partly due to her smugness and sharp features. Yes, she has a confident voice but lacks a likeable personality.

I don’t even feel like watching anymore of the show and if Samantha wins, I certainly won’t be going to see it.

  4. Glo says:

Without doubt Rachel was the most talented of the ‘Nancy’s.’ The only one to get a standing ovation. I was so disappointed to see her go instead of ’smug’ Sam. I will be casting my vote next week for Jodie.

  5. cc says:

The best girl to play the role of Nancy left the show last night. At least it has saved me £120 for a pair of tickets as I won’t bother paying to see any of the last 3 play the role. When the eventual selected Nancy fails to draw the audiences or can no longer perform the role, we may get another chance to see Rachel do the job properly if someone else hasn’t already snapped her up. Poor audience decisions like this will probably ultimately stop Andrew and the BBC doing the shows.

  6. Bob says:

Rachel was the only one left that was really competent to play the role of Nancy. They are now left with Sam who is ok at singing but not good at acting and Jodie & Jesse who both canot act and cannot move well on stage. I found Jodies acting with Fagin terrible it also in a broad Northern accent. Rachal although having a native Belfast accent was able to act the part well and in a pretty convincing East End accent

Quite what was ALW’s logic. The only thing I can think of is Sam has more chance of getting the Public vote although after Rachels last performance there seems to have been a big seing to her

Clearly the panel saw Rachel & Sam as the only two real options for the part. ALW went as far as saying that.

I suspect though they may get Jodie which will not be good news for them. In spite o not being good she seems to get the Public vote.

  7. Roger Heath says:

Rachel’s elimination last night was a disgrace.

How Lloyd-Webber could have failed to save her after she had both out-sung and out-acted the other three is baffling – almost on a par with the public’s irrational and myopic decision not to vote her in the top two.

The woman who would have excelled in the role of Nancy is no longer part of the show. She deserves to go from strength to strength while Lloyd-Webber and the rest of the “I’d Do Anything” circus go down the pan.

  8. Cat says:

I think Sam is good and i can see why he got rid of Rachael, even tho she was v v good. Cameron Mackintosh wants a younger Nancy and although she may not have been the best on the show, Jessie or Sam is the perfect candidate!

Rachael was in my opinion too good for Oliver and will be far better off in something else!!

I don’t want Jodie to win because i feel she is not genuine!! And she scared me on Sun when she started “crying”

  9. Ruth says:

I am so fed up! I loved Maria & Joseph and voted for the winners both times. Went to see Sound of Music and it was worth every penny! Going to see Joseph in August and I can’t wait. Will I go to see Oliver though? Perhaps – but ONLY if Sam wins, and even then I’m not sure I’ll bother. Rachel was head and shoulders above the rest right from the start of the series – the only one who ever really stood a chance of doing the role justice. Last night was a joke – Jodie is OK, but nothing special. Sam is good but nowhere near as good as Rachel. Jessie is S**te and should have gone weeks ago. She is like a man dressed in drag with a Sean Connery voice and a lip-curl Elvis would be proud of. GRRRR!

  10. Margaret says:

Rachel was by far the best contestant and outshone all the others in the show last night and after Sam got the lowest viewers’ vote, Andrew should have listened to the voice of reason, (their discussions about the girls) and got rid of Sam. I just hope that wooden Jessie does not get the role as although she can sing really well, she can’t move properly on stage.

  11. geoff says:

Has the British public gone mad. ALW must be so relieved that this isn’t his own show. He had the impossible decision to make but I feel that he thinks the absolutely awful Jodie is going to win this competition and so has saved Rachel the shame of being beaten by the worst performer over all 3 series of the show – Jodie. I just hope between now and saturday the public sees sense and votes for Sam but I think it unlikely.

  12. L.Allen says:

    Rachel should not have gone.

Jodie should have gone, she is over the top and nothing like a young girl from a deprived background – visit the website and check out her audition tape – Oh dear!

As for Sam, she did not even get slightly anxious in the sing off – Smug or what.

Jessie is the only one who has not sung a wrong note all series!, she’s gutsy, and the only one who has true star quality, which is what the panel keeps saying she has and the quality the panel keep saying the leading lady should have – especially Cameron !

Can’t bare the thought of old Jodie jazz hands getting the role. i bet charles dickens is spinning in his grave at the thought of Miss Cabaret Cruise playing Nance !!!

  13. musical fan says:

Judging by this weeks public votes I do pity poor Mr Mackintosh! He’ll either end up with a fat Nancy who can’t move and dance or someone who isn’t able to pronounce properly.

Why on earth leave the final vote to the “expert” UK public instead of giving the producer the final say? The experts made it quite clear that the least talented were voted best by the public. The public voting really is a joke.

  14. cam22 says:

I am not a fan of Rachel but I can see that she is the most suited to the role and would do the job well.

Sam was better in the sing off but ALW would have saved her regardless. She has the most potential and is also Cameron’s preferred choice. The panel have not tried to disguise this, which I think, has led to comments over Samantha’s smugness. I don’t think she is at all. She is shy but also confident in her ability. Surely performing on stage requires one to be. In recent weeks Sam has appeared to be far less conceited than Jessie.
I think Sam is the obvious choice for the role now. I’ll admit that Jessie has a really good voice but I hardly notice this anymore thanks to her awful posture and movement. Who is voting for her?!
Jodie is Okay and should probably win just because the younger girls will go on and do other things.

No matter the outcome there will be so many displeased people. Given the publics different views on the role, I think the winner is going to have a very hard time from both critics and voters. Plus, the cast so far have not exactly filled me with confidence…Mr Bean!!!

  15. commentator says:

Cannot believe Rachel was kicked out after her performance of memory. She made Samantha look dead behind the eyes in comparison. The decision to boot her was obviously made well in advance of the show. And to confirm what a bad decision had been made, she blew everyone away with her farewell song. I wont be going to see the show.

  16. It was no surprise when ALW saved Samantha in the sing-off. Cameron Mackintosh made it very clear during the show that he wanted one of the younger girls. As he reminded the voting public, the winner will have 6 months to prepare for the role…

I’m still disappointed to see Rachel go…

  17. Mrs T says:

I ’spotted’ Connie Fisher and Lee Mead and thought I had ’spotted’ the winner of this contest but no! I was just amazed to see Rachel voted out and then not saved by ALW. There must be some agenda at work here that I am not aware of. I saw Connie and Lee in action and loved them both but I certainly won’t waste my money on Oliver with any of the remaining three Nancies. Congratulations to Rachel on her exit performance though. The other three simply won’t be able to match that.

  18. Bill Sykes says:

Cor blimey are you lot ‘avin a laugh?

Rachel was a cracker and should have been my Nancy. Knowing my luck I will end up with that fat Blackpool barmaid.

  19. marlene says:

Well i agree the Rachael should not have gone, i also Picked Connie Fisher for Maria from the start and also Lee Mead and i have seen both of the shows, that were fantastic but i dont know about this one!! who will they pick on Saturday!! I just hope it isnt the curly Redhead from Ireland!!!

  20. Julia says:

I am a Brit living in Spain, and tune in every Sat to see I’d Do Anything.
I could’nt believe ALW kept Sam in.
Not only did she have the least viewers votes, but she is so smug and lacks the warmth required for Nancy.
Rachel on the other hand has a great voice and the best acting skills of all the girls, she would have made the most believable Nancy. I would have flown home to see her in the West End, but now I’ll save myself the airfare as well as the ticket.!!
Not sure who should win now, dont care as long as it is not Samantha!!

  21. J says:

How many of you voted for Rachel last night, hm? If Rachel shouldn’t have gone why did the public put her in that position? Shame on u UK!

Now Jodie/Samantha to win, as Jessie is now verging on unbearable and wouldn’t survive many other talent shows.

  22. tapshoes says:

Is it true that one of the Nancy’s has left the finals??? Is it true I work in a theatre and the gossip is rife that samantha has been the winner from the start???

  23. Lex says:

Jodie hardly is an obese elephant trying to move about the stage. She’s an attractive woman with full curves. She did go down to like 9 stone when she did The Biggest Loser, but obviously put some of it back on for whatever reason, she was alot bigger than she is now.

I think out of the ones left she has the most interesting voice, and a very beautiful one at that. She shows great acting and it’s all in the eyes, not silly hand gestures and head nodding ( which drives me insane). Now Rachel has gone i think Jodie would be great as Nancy. You can totally see her singing umpahpah. Sam gives empty performances, and Jessie does have something special…but..Jodie for me.

  24. Rachel Alexander says:

Reading these comments made me laugh out loud! The Rachel fans out there should remember that she was in 3 sing-offs and also received the lowest public votes on one occasion – so according to your comments about Sam, Rachel should have long been gone! Samantha is not an unemotional girl, she is just 17 yrs old and keeps her emotions well in check and reserves her more extrovert nature to those closest to her. Unlike the constant & extremely annoying Jodie – who is just a cabaret & drama queen. Both Jessie and Jodie should be shot for how they move. Samantha has worked incredibly hard to be in this show and survive it with her dignity in tact after some of the outfits & songs they’ve given her. Whatever ever you feel about Rachel (and I do believe she is very talented) don’t take it out on Sam. She has not been picked to win this show from the start – and quite frankly if you don’t vote for her this saturday, you’ll end up with the cabaret queen or the Jessie – and I for one can understand why two leading MT schools turned her down.

  25. kari littlejohn says:

i’m still gutted rachel isn’t nancy! i hope we see her in the west end really really soon i can’t wait i’m a huge fan of hers now! xx
