Shipwrecked Battle Of the Islands Launches On Channel 4 In January!
Shipwrecked is due to hit our screens in exactly one weeks time and we have a bit of a taster of what you can expect to see next Sunday!
It’s week one on Shipwrecked 2007 and the first ten Islanders are arriving at their new home in the South Pacific. This time on Shipwrecked the Islanders are being dropped off around their neighbouring Islands one at a time, so their first task will be to find the other members of their tribe.
With one Island all boys and the other all girls it’s a battle of the sexes, and it’s not long before the newly formed tribes are checking out the competition as the Tiger girls spot the Shark boys across the water. 20 year old promotions girl Fiona is quick to share her criteria on judging the boys: “If they make me laugh and they’re ugly, they’re in with a small chance. If they make me laugh and they’re good looking, they’re in with a massive chance!” Across the water, architecture student Stevie has a different approach: “We’re shipwrecked – we’ll take anything!”
Over on Shark Island the boys dive straight in with the building plans for their new shelter and home for the next five months, and construction manager Will is happy to lead the way. On Tiger Island, the girls are working hard too – on their tans! And decide to take some time out to explore the Island and get to know each other before building their camp. And their first discovery is the long-drop toilet. It’s their one luxury – and it doesn’t flush! And Tiger girl Fiona is quick to lay down the ground rules: “Anybody who comes over to the Island isn’t allowed to poo in our toilet!” But when conversation finally turns to the building plans it’s not long before two of the Tiger girls are clashing over ideas.
The Shark boys haven’t stopped as they race to finish building before they lose the light. As the sun sets on the day, both tribes prepare to cook on an open fire for the first time. Fiona’s meal goes down a treat but across the lagoon it’s a different story. And as the Shark boys settle for the night in their new camp – the Tiger girls have to make do with bedding down on the beach.
As the week unfolds the two tribes slowly adjust to Island life. Shark boy Stevie opens a tin can for the first time and cooks his first meal, while the girls try the local delicacy of lambs tongue. But it’s not all sun and lambs tongue in paradise and tensions soon begin to show on both sides of the lagoon.
Tiger girl Lucy is determined to stick to her strong beliefs and she’s quick to share them with the other Tiger girls too ‘I don’t like fat people, and I don’t like really ugly people.’ And 23 year old manual labourer Terri is starting to feel the effects of hunger on the island: “Every time I look at the chickens all I can see is nice juicy thighs and a breast.” Meanwhile over on Shark Island, the boys aren’t seeing eye-to-eye with 20 year old creative writing student Joe, and after a confrontation on the Island, Joe is clearly shocked: “Today is the day that I discover that the camp hates me.”
It’s not long before curiosity gets the better of Tiger girls Lucy and Lianne, and they hatch a plan to make a swim for Shark Island to check out the boys and their camp. As Shipwrecked rules clearly state that no tribe member may set foot on another Island without permission, the girls are jeopardising their team’s success…
After a week of anticipation, it’s time for the first beach party, and the Tigers finally get to meet the Sharks. Shark boys Lorenzo and Stuart are quick to pass comment on the Tigers girls and ladies man Lorenzo is particularly taken with the Tiger girls: “When I saw them get off the boat – I could see they were all in mint condition.” Meanwhile the Tiger girls seem to have a different opinion and Fiona is first to rate the boys: “My first impression was actually there aren’t any really, really hot guys!”
As the two tribes get to know each other – Will wastes no time in whisking two of the tigers off for a personal tour of Shark Island, while right-wing Lucy finds a soulmate in posh boy Stevie. There’s an unpleasant surprise in store for Tiger girls Lianne and Lucy…And is there already a defection on the horizon?
As the first beach party comes to an end, its time for the Islanders to meet the first new arrival – Paul Harris, a 22 year old ex-marine from Bournemouth. As both tribes welcome Paul to the Island he’s soon whisked away by the Tiger girls. Paul will spend the first half of the week on Tiger Island, and the next half with the Sharks. At the end of the week Paul will have to make the ultimate decision – will he be a Tiger or a Shark?
