I meant to say public, but my dyslexia got the better of my rantings.

Or it may be that, I was thinking certain members of the public and certain TV producers are in fact pubic (subconsciously)if they like that sort of contrived TV.

In the same vein I hope matt from Busted does not go on "I'm a celebrity get me out of here". As I think he will either be exploited so we hate him (like shabbaz) or he will just get sympathy, curiousity and patronised (like pete and nikki).

No-one will understand his condition once the programme is over and it will just be a ratings booster at his expense (EVEN IF THOUGH HE WILL GET PAID).

The UK pubic cannot sink any lower in their TV viewing if this occurs.

I think this is a valid point, that Producers have more imput than we all actually think and Reality doesnt work like that. I think producers get so anxious when it is not going their way, they seriously interfere with contestants and editing.

I know from experience that TV producers are not the most honest people in their press releases, they are not the most honest people in a room full of justly convicted criminals, so I take what they say with a pinch of salt. Unless I hear or see the evidence myself.

I hope sophie is getting necessary treatment for her condition and she should consider a TV programme about bipolar disorder/manic depression as many people are really ignorant/ judgemental. TV producers don't help when they edit out selective parts of conversations or people's behaviour simply to boost ratings.

Yes - I did complain about the producers' treatment of Sophie and management of the programme. In the telephone conversation with her whilst on the island, I certainly did not tell her to "keep it up". I could not criticise the programme in any way as the call would have been cut off and I was not going to turn down the opportunity of speaking to my daughter when I had been unable to do so for some weeks.

even though I am a cynical, I do think she possibly suffers from Bipolar disorder, as many people who have manic depression are terrible attention seeking show offs when they are on a high, then they come right down to terrible depths of pure hell.

I have worked with people who have this and I have to say they can be intolerable and even though I know they are not well in some cases I am ashamed to say at times you can hate them.

I think parents will always support their kids, even when they are not at their best. So parents are not the best advisors , as many parents are always proud of their offspring not matter what they are doing or what they have done. I think it's a parent's perrogative to be partial with their kids, they are also excellent at picking up the pieces later on.

Agents and producers dont do this, so I am more concerned about their motives, as if it goes horribly wrong they will drop the celeb like a ton of bricks.

One way to stop people using/ abusing psychological or psychiatric disorders on reality tv is to exclude anyone who has these conditionssverely from these type of programmes in the first place.

I watched stephen fry take an assessment with a psychiatrist to see what end of the spectrum he was for his manic depression. the test was robust, lengthy and indepth and stephen was suprised to see he was actually quite severe for manic depression. He believed for some years, he wouldnt be too bad as he thought he had been using self-cure techniques. They HADNT WORKED.

Not sure if the contestants on love island were evaluated this way before they appeared on the show, so, this is how sophie knows of her condition.

However if she is taking medication she must have some recognisable manic depression. If what she is saying is all true.

If celebs are being honest about their mental health conditions, I would like to see more of these celebrities such as Sophie support :

MIND,
SANE and
the Mental Health Foundation,

to bring more awareness of mental health to the masses and also to stop certain celebrities stating they have mental health problems to sell a book, magazine article, to get sympathy,

BUT then they have no affiliation with the organisations who work in this field tirelessly and on a fulltime basis.

We could do with more support for these charities from celebs, as yet not many celebs are supporting mental health organisations. Considering so many claim to have mental health problems.

So in one way I am pretty sceptical about (some) celebrities and their questionable and strategic mental health problems.

Celebs with Mental health problems may also find the professionals within these organisations give invaluable advice and support to them, so both parties can benefit.

Its jus a thought.............

Dawn: While watching the show I wondered about the advisors that let her go on the show - for instance, her mother complained to the media about the producers treatment of her, then in a phone call to the island congratulated her and told her to "keep it up".

And that was her mother....

The public do not know that much about manic depression, even though 4 million people have it in the UK.

But there is a time and a place to present the uk with manic depressants and I think "Love Island" wasnt it.

I really hope Sophie is alright over the longterm and I think her agent should be more selective in the future, as her condition is not an easy one to manage.

Do people really watch this programme to see other people getting it on.

Have we become a nation of doggers and peepers.

I tuned in briefly but just to have a look see, if I knew anyone's faces and I didnt know that many people, so I switched over.

But I can assure you I wasnt wearing my dirty mac with no buttons at the time, even if others were.

Dirty general public, switching on your tv to see sophie get it on, dirty general public.

Seriously :
I expected sophie to be on stephen Fry's confessions of a manic depressant (BBC 2) as he as the same condition.

Very sorry she has Bipolar disorder, but reality shows, that people watch only to see you do the nasty, are not really the best form of therapy for manic depression.

No-one with these conditions should do this type of show, even if they think they can cope with it. As the condition is so powerful, it controls you.

I wish her well with her treatment.
