Splash! 2013: Tom Daley excited to launch TV career
Olympic diver Tom Daley is excited to launch his television career as the host of new show Splash!
The sportsman, 18, is delighted he’s been given the opportunity to present the ITV1 programme – which will see him teach celebrities how to dive – as he feels it will give him something to fall back on should his sporting career end.He told the Mail on Sunday’s Live magazine: “The idea of presenting is incredibly exciting. Realistically speaking, I may have another 10 or 15 years in diving, but you never know what’s going to happen.
“I’d love to be at the next Olympics and maybe the one after, but I’d also love to think I have something else in my future.
“I’m going to be honest, but I’m not going to be like Simon Cowell. The idea is really exciting to me. I think every kid wants to be on TV. And and Dec are my ultimate idols, but to think I can do a show where it’s actually entertainment but it’s about diving – that’s amazing.”
Olympic bronze medallist Tom said that his ideal contestants on the show would be X Factor judge Louis Walsh and US president Barack Obama.
And while celebrities such as Katie Price’s ex-fiance Leandro Penna and The Only Way Is Essex star Joey Essex are rumoured to be taking part, Tom admits his ideal competitor would be Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole.
He said: “Cheryl tweeted me after the Olympics asking for a diving lesson, but it’s not happened yet. Obviously I can’t imagine anything better; I’m just waiting for the call.”
