Splash! Anthony Ogogo says diving is “agony” and he’s realized he has a fear of heights!
Olympic boxing champ Anthony Ogogo is of course currently competing in ITV diving contest Splash! but he’s apparently not finding it as easy as he thought he would…
Speaking to TV Biz about taking part in the show – in which contestants are mentored by Olympian Tom Daley – Anthony revealed that only has he endured pain after diving, he’s also realized he’s afraid of heights!
He said, “I was ignorant as to how painful it would be and how much skill diving requires.
“In one mishap I had lashes on my back like I had been whipped after I over-rotated during a dive…
“It was agony, it felt like really bad sunburn.”
He added, “I can take boxing pain. Punch me in the head or body and I can deal with it because I’m used to it.
“Yet when I banged my toe it was like I’d been shot.”
Anthony continued, “I didn’t even realise I was scared of heights.
“In the ring I get the boxing gloves on, my alter-ego is menacing, stern and very tough.
“Outside of it I am soft. . . I was brought up with my mum and four sisters, so I’m probably more feminine than your average boxer.”
We’ll see Anthony in tonight’s third installment of Splash! as he competes against Shameless star Tina Malone and presenter Donna Air. They’ll battle it out for the last two places in next week’s semi-final alongside Jake Canuso, Omid Djalili, Eddie `The Eagle’ Edwards and Charlotte Jackson.
The decision on who goes on to the next stage of course rests with judges Andy Banks, Jo Brand and Leon Taylor, who’ll make their decisions after the public vote off one contestant.
