Olympic diving ace and Splash! mentor Tom Daley has revealed that he’s “gutted” that Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe has pulled out of the show.
As we reported recently, Jennifer decided not to take part in the show after her boyfriend Sylvain Longchambon – who is of course a pro-skater on ITV’s Dancing On Ice – ditched her, supposedly in order to date Corrie star Samia Ghadie.
Saying that she is “too upset” to take part in Splash! Jennifer hasn’t made any further statement about deciding to ditch the diving contest.
But as mentioned, Tom said it was a shame that she withdrew from the show, adding, “If she had given it a go, it would have been quite a good thing for her to do, but things happen.”
However, while speaking to The Sun about the show and the remaining contestants, Tom said, “There have been loads of wardrobe malfunctions!
“Lots of bikini bottoms have come off, lots of boobs have come out. All the girls seem to be doing it.
“Anthony Ogogo asked Linda Barker and Charlotte Jackson whether they would prefer to do a really bad dive and everything stays on, or a perfect dive but everything falls off.
“Both said they would rather it go really well and have to get out of the pool naked.”
He added, “I don’t think a lot of [the celebrities] realised what they were letting themselves in for or how high the boards are.
“Surprisingly, some of the people you wouldn’t think would be good are good.
“Some have taken it into their hands, gone back to where they live and continued to train.
“A couple might be doing somersaults in the live shows as they have improved very quickly.
But some are quite slack.
“Joey Essex is so competitive and wants to win but he needs to put in the hours. He is very worried about his hair — just before the first training session Joey was having his hair done!”
Tom continued, “There have been tears and tantrums. Jade Ewen is terrified of water and has had to learn to overcome her fears.
“Caprice is very brave and is very good. She had a bit of a mishap. Instead of having her hands out in line with her head, she had them lower and ended up smacking her face.
“Anthony Ogogo has definitely had the worst wipe-out so far, landing on his back as he over-rotated.
“He said it was very painful, which I was quite surprised about considering he is a boxer.
“People have suddenly realised how high the boards are and are bottling out.
“Thankfully, the worst that can happen is bruise themselves. Imagine having really bad sunburn and someone coming up to you and whacking you on the back as hard as they can — that’s what it feels like.”
Splash! debuts on ITV1 tonight at 7.15pm, but for now, here’s a look at the show’s trailer…
