Splash! slated by viewers despite opening strongly with 6.3million of us tuning in. Was it a (belly) flop?
Last night on ITV, new diving show Splash! debuted, introducing some of the 15 celebs who are learning to dive under the watchful eye of Olympian Tom Daley…
And an impressive 6.3million viewers tuned in to watch the show’s premiere, however, according to Metro, many fans were less than impressed with it and branded it a total flop.
Metro states, “Last night’s opening show saw comedian Omid Djalili and Benidorm star Jake Canuso pass through to the next round with flying colours.
“But TV fans were unimpressed…”
One fan took to Twitter to say, “Tv really hit rock bottom with that program Splash last night #purerubbish.”
Another wrote, “If Splash! holds up until the end of the series we might as well give up.
“And by ‘we’ I don’t mean TV producers, I mean the human race.”
Meanwhile, MSN quotes other Twitter users and their thoughts on Splash!
@TheTellyRocket – “That last splash was the sound of the itv commissioning editor throwing himself off the 10-metre platform.”
@richardpbacon (Richard Bacon) – “We’ve had our sarcastic fun. But let’s admit that in it’s own mysterious way, it’s strangely enjoyable. If not utterly compelling.”
@Simone_Hearts – “The only thing that could make this awful programme even remotely entertaining would be a great white shark.”
But, as mentioned, Splash! landed a peak audience of 6.3 million, which according to ITV made it the highest rating show of the night. I guess it’ll be interesting then to see if the show can maintain that level of viewers in subsequent installments.
Did you watch it? And if so, what did you think of it? Here’s a reminder of some of last night’s action…
