Strictly Come Dancing 2012: Johnny Ball to become Strictly’s oldest ever contestant!
Legendary kids TV presenter, Johnny Ball, is set to be the oldest ever contestant on Strictly Come Dancing!
That is some mean feet, with the likes of Ann Widdecome and John Sergeant having already taken part, but he can rest safe in the knowledge that he will never be the oldest person on the dance floor all the time Sir Bruce is hosting the show!
According to the Sun newspaper, Johnny has been in enthusiastic training for the show, and has already impressed show bosses.
A source revealed: “Johnny might be 74 but he’s got some puff. He has looked after himself over the years and is really game.
“It would be foolish to write him off as some old duffer just there for laughs, like John Sergeant.
“He’s been showing off some moves in training that would put much younger celebs to shame.”
His daughter, and former contestant, Zoe, will get to interview her dad as she has signed up to host the popular BBC2 Strictly spin-off show, It Takes Two when the new series kicks off later this year.
Johnny will be well remembered by telly fans, who grew up in the with his shows in the Seventies and Eighties ,or his shows including Think Again, Think Backwards and Johnny Ball Reveals All.
Not forgetting his stint in the 60′s as the host of the iconic kids show, Play School!
Rumoured to be joining Johnny in this year’s Dancing talent show are ex England cricketer Michael Vaughan, singer Kimberley Walsh, model Jerry Hall, TV presenter Fern Britton and Westlife’s Nicky Byrne, with bosses still hoping to recruit Olympians such as gold medal-winning cyclist Victoria Pendleton.
The new series of the BBC1 reality show kicks off on September 15 when the star dancers will be paired with their professional partners.
