Robbie Williams is forging ahead with his solo career and is reportedly starting work on another Big Band album.
The Take That star previously enjoyed success with his ‘Swing When You’re Winning’ record back in 2001, which included tracks such as “Mack the Knife”, “Somethin’ Stupid” (with Nicole Kidman) and Mr Bojangles. Back then he took two weeks off his tour to record what would be his second studio album, an album he described as the “big band album he had always dreamed of making.”
When it was released, it became an instant number one hit in Britain, while in Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, Germany and Switzerland, it reached the top 10, going on to sell over two million copies by the end of the year in the UK and over seven million copies worldwide
Once Rob has finished with his ‘Take the Crown Stadium Tour’ in August he wants to try and recreate that success and is planning to make another album in the same vein.
A source told The Sun:
”Robbie can’t sit still, he always wants to do something different from the previous album.
”He’s currently weighing up which swing classics to record. There are so many, so it’s going to be a tough choice.
”He loved ‘Swing When You’re Winning’ and is looking forward to playing with a big band again.”
Robbie’s most recent release ‘Take the Crown’ saw him topping both the album and single charts, with the release of it’s lead single ‘Candy’, which had been co-written by his Take That bandmate Gary Barlow.
It marked the second time that Williams had a number one single and album at the same time, the first time was in 2001 when “Somethin’ Stupid” and ‘Swing When You’re Winning’ were number one in the singles and albums chart respectively.
Rob seems excited about his year ahead and in a blog post this week promised big things for his fans. He wrote:
“I’VE BEEN WORKING ON ANOTHER ”BIG” PROJECT ….
(NOT JUST SAT ON MY ARSE BEING A DADDY!…ALTHOUGH I’VE DONE MY FAIR SHARE OF THAT TOO)
ALL WILL BE REVEALED ….NEEDLESS TO SAY I’M VERY EXCITED ABOUT WHAT’S TO COME …”
