I have to say, I watched The Duchess In Hull tonight with a large dose of scepticism, and expected to see a pompous royal preaching to the ‘lower classes’.

But after watching the show I have to hold my hands up and admit that Sarah Ferguson came across really well. In fact I wouldn’t mind her as my mum!

The show centres on Sarah moving to Hull and helping the unhealthy Sargerson family, to live on benefits and improve their eating habits.

Sarah was down to earth, not overly pushy, and most of all warm. She didn’t tell the mum of the family that she was killing her children with turkey burgers and meat pies, but instead tried to understand how hard it is to feed a family of six on £80 per week.

She spoke individually to all the family members, and on camera at least, didn’t appear the least bit condescending or haughty.

I am quite looking forward to the second part of this show, and seeing what changes the Duchess implements. I wouldn’t mind trying some of her homemade coleslaw either. It looked delicious!
