The Unreality X-Factor Chart: 19th November 2005

Last nights show was hard to judge and this weeks chart was the most difficult yet. Most of the performances were excellent, and it was hard to decide who wowed me the most, but I have chosen who was best and worst for me. The question is do you agree?

  1. Andy Abraham: Andy sang the classic song ‘Me and Mrs Jones’ and absolutely knocked my socks off. This guy seems to be consistently excellent and has no faults or weaknesses to speak of. He has an amazing voice, is extremely confident on stage and has a sheer style that is impossible to fake.
  2. Journey South: Journey South are going up in my estimations week after week. Louis commented last night that the song ‘Angels’ by Robbie Williams was a lazy choice but I would have to disagree. Although the song has suffered from over-exposure, the boys definately made it their own and lent their own style to it. As always their performance was tight and Andy looked extremely comfortable on stage. I think Carl has a way to go until he shows that sort of ease with performing, but that shyness is part of his charm.
  3. Brenda Edwards: The Donna Summer track was perfect for Brenda and she not only sang it well but boy could she dance! With not a bum note in sight Brenda performed this song as if she had been doing so for years. And Simon was right to admit his massive error in saying that Brenda was not sexy. She looked amazing, as she has done since the start of the finals.
  4. Shayne Ward: Shayne is definatley on the up! After his excellent performance last week of Justin Timberlakes Cry Me A River he performed Take Thats ‘A Million Love Songs’ with ease. His voice sounded amazing and he looked comfortable with the choice of song. I could almost hear all the young girls sighing each time he looked at the camera, I think Shayne has an excellent chance of winning this competition on that alone!
  5. The Conway Sisters: Last nights performance was the best The Conways have given in at least three weeks, and it was obvious how much they wanted to stay in after last weeks narrow escape. They sang ‘One Moment In Time’ and were a tighter unit than usual. They are obviously comfortable singing this type of Power Ballad and it suited their voices well. However they failed to really move me in the way that some of the better artists do, and I think that as the competition gets tougher they will be lucky to last another week or two in this show.
  6. Chico Slimani: Chico closed the show with the original song “Its Chico Time” which was written by himself and Mark Hudson. Louis stated that Chico could have a hit record with this song and Chico seemed quite chuffed. Chico was entertaining as were his young dancers. Novelty has kept him in the show so far, but what can he pull off next week to keep the public interested?
  7. Nicholas Dorsett: Nicholas’ performance this week was disappointing. I hoped that the last 2 weeks had just been blips and that Nicholas would prove himself to be a strong contestant in the contest this week, but it wasn’t to be. He had severe tuning problems and like last week and the week before looked nervous and uncomfortable. Louis said that Nicholas needs a year or so to gain some confidence and get some experience of performing in public and I agree. The whole experience obviously overwhelmed him, and I felt so sorry for him when the judges criticised him as he looked so gutted. I think Sharon was right to chose Nicholas to go, it was obviously his time!
