This Is David Gest: Meet The Jacksons
David Gest is famed for his A-list friends, and in programme two of his very own show This Is David Gest he invites the cameras behind the scenes to meet the biggest stars of all – The Jacksons.
David has arrived in LA for a lavish party he is throwing in honour of his success in the UK, but first Imad drives him over to the Jackson family home so he can pay his old friends a visit.
There is no answer when he buzzes the gate, but best pal Tito arrives just in the nick of time.
Tito says: “David knows when he can’t get in that you jump the gate, he used to do it everyday!” says Tito.
A swift leg up over the front gate soon sees David outside the second home he so often talks about. Before long the two friends are reminiscing about their childhood and behaving like kids.
As they guide cameras around the family home Tito elaborates:
“He actually thought he was a Jackson brother, he was our little soul man. He had an afro, he wore the glasses, he had all the clothes.”
David whispers off camera to Tito “40,000 people follow me everywhere it’s unbelievable, I have a new life.”
When mum, Catherine returns home David assumes a classic Gest line of questioning, asking her things like ‘did you name Tito after you were drinking tea and you spilled it on your toe?’
David does a spot of shopping in advance of his party
“I don’t shop that often, but when I shop I shop,” he says. “Sometimes $10,000 sometimes $20,000. Shoes, these shoes are $7,500 that’s almost £3,800 for these shoes. I gotta have those.”
On the sly David asks the shop assistant how much discount he can have for the shoes as he wants more than his usual twenty percent.
“I couldn’t spend £3,800 on a pair of shoes so we’re going to see what we can get them for. It’s Beverly Hills, nobody comes and deals, everybody just buys, that’s why it’s so fun. I don’t wanna shop unless it’s a bargain, I’m not going to go in a shop and pay full because then I feel like you’re just like every other idiot!”
In the end he spends $10,293.53 and is chuffed with his bartering skills.
“I got a good deal because it would have been about $14000 so I feel good.”
The night of the party arrives and the guest list is like a who’s who of old school Hollywood with David’s celebrity friends old and new gathered to celebrate his success. Guests include Jackie Stallone, Jane Russell, Lady Victoria Hervey, it should be a night to remember. But are they all sure what they’re celebrating? It doesn’t seem so…
Actor Richard Benjamin says: “We only just heard about what has happened, some amazing thing like England loved him or something, is that right?!”
