Tonight: Immigration Housing Row

Monday 2 July 2007 8:00pm - 8:30pm on ITV1.

Should British families get priority for council homes over economic migrants as raised by government minister Margaret Hodge? Mike Nicholson goes behind-the-scenes at a council housing department to see what pressures they face to accommodate immigrants and British families and speaks to those who will never be able to afford their own homes.

    Tonight programme 2nd July 2007.
I have a friend who worked and paid his dues but had to sleep in a shed when his relationship broke down. He was informed by the Council Housing Dept that as he was not an unmarried mother, drug addict or immigrant (and how many of these were working every day) he would have to continue living in a shed as he was not a priority. What a disgrace. Jean from Leeds

5% immigrant housing figure is a nonsense in inner london. its common knowledge in southwark the figure is greatly in excess of this. the housing dept. is mainly staffed by africans. if you live here (southwark) its obvious. often i get on the bus and i’m the only white man on it. non european immigration is the main precipitating factor, alot of it illegal.
