Watch out Simon, another one bites the dust! Alesha Dixon to quit Britain’s Got Talent?
Is it just a coincidence that Simon Cowell can’t seem to attract or keep judges for his reality shows lately? I don’t think so!
After months of trying to replace Destiny’s Child singer, Kelly Rowland, on the X Factor since she left the show last year, Cowell has been linked to several names with regards to the fourth and vacant judging seat on the popular singing show, with no appointment being made, resulting in the audition stages being started with a string of guest judges, some of which have been questionable at best.
And who would wonder why, given that the career expectancy of a judge on one of his shows is approximately 1 series, or week in Cheryl Cole’s case, with the likes of Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and Cole all sacked during or by the end of their first series in the hot seat in the X Factor USA.
But now, it would seem, that he has more to worry about than just the empty X Factor seat, which was even turned down by former judge, Dannii Minogue after details of her affair with the reality puppeteer were highlighted in his unofficial tell-all biography, Sweet Revenge: The intimate life of Simon Cowell, penned by Tom Bower, as Britain’s Got Talent Judge, Alesha Dixon, is reportedly throwing a bit of a wobbly too!
The BBC were furious over the move, and it is quite safe to presume that Dixon well and truly burned her bridges making the leap of networks, but today The Sun newspaper reports that the former Strictly Come Dancing champion is not certain if she will return to judge the show again next year.
This may, or may not have something to do with the rumours that she is being lined up for the X Factor job, which would make her the only star to complete the treble and work on all three mainstream reality shows, but with reports last week claiming that former Pussycat Doll, and current audition guest judge, Nicole Scherzinger, in the process of signing a contract to secure the job at an estimated fee of £500k, we can’t help but wonder what this could mean!
According to reports, Dixon, who was once part of girl group Mis-Teeq, admitted she was unsure about renewing her contract when the show starts again next year, saying: “They have said they’d like me back but until I sign on that dotted line you just don’t know.”
According to the paper Dixon went on to deny that she had been in talks regarding the X Factor job, nor was she expecting to be approached, saying:“They have not asked me. I am not waiting for that phone call.”
Despite her obvious unease after her first series away from the BBC, Dixon admitted that she does not regret her decision to leave the network for ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, stating: “I make decisions based on my gut instinct and it felt right. I have not got a bad word to say about Strictly, I loved everything about it during my time there.
“I embrace change though. I like to do new things and I think it is about evolving as a person.”
Asked for her thoughts on this years final, which was won by Ashleigh and Pudsey, Alesha commented that it was an open competition all the way through, which anyone could have won, explaining: “When we got to the final few I’d have been happy with Loveable Rogues winning or Jonathan and Charlotte.
“All of the judges said that was the beauty of the final – you thought every act was worthy of being there.
“At that point it is down to the public and they do not often get it wrong. So that is why I thought the right winner won.
“We all fell in love with Pudsey, the whole nation fell in love with the dog. It was genius and something different, unexpected and lovely.
“It goes deeper than Britain’s Got Talent as we are a nation who loves dogs.
“There are so many dogs in rescue homes. I think Ashleigh will be a great ambassador on the relationship you can have with an animal if you treat them well.”
