When love turns sour: David Walliams and Simon Cowell fight during Britain’s Got Talent auditions
What a difference a year makes. This time in 2012 the love between David Walliams and Simon Cowell blossomed but this year not so much.
It started on Monday, when Simon Cowell stood a jet legged David and the girls up as they all went to dinner to celebrate starting Britain’s Got Talent auditions again. He further frustrated just about everyone when he left the audience in the cold for hours running on both days of the Cardiff tryouts, while David and co had long since arrived.
On the second day, things continued to be frosty as David grew more and more annoyed at Simon stopping singers mid act/song. Yesterday, though things came to a head when Simon continued putting off acts and seemed to think he was judging on his own. David sprang into defence of the performers when an auditionee he, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were supporting was once again abruptly cut off by Cowell.
“The hands gone up because I don’t like it… when everyone else is enjoying it.” David snapped on Twitter.
To which Simon replied point black ‘I wasn’t’.
The audience was also frustrated by Simon making it impossible to get into an act, as he stopped them before they could even make their mind up and booed him. David was happy with the back up, saying: “Listen to your people!!”
Earlier in the show the music mogul frustrated the Little Britain star by talking over him constantly when he tried to judge an act. ‘This is my bit and I’m talking,’ said an exasperated Walliams.‘You have to realise that this is their moment not yours. Stop showing off!’ Simon also angered the comic by hijacking his mobile and Twitter account to write “I feel so worthless when I sit next to simon”.
Simon’s behavior might have been out of jealousy, as David was presented with a song in his honour and a delighted Walliams joked: “Don’t get jealous! Just because I have a song about me and you don’t!” David surprised his followers later on when talking about Simon without the adjective “my”, oh dear, looks like love is truly on the rocks – and it’s only day two!!
On the day itself: after the surprising start with the La Quebrada High Diving Productions Ltd, the show continued with mainly singers once again, bar Jon the Invisible Man.
It was once again David who kept the crowd going again, both inside and outside, entertaining continuously, even from a high crane. Besides the comic the other judges seem a bit off this year. Many in the crowd commented that it seems that Simon, Amanda and Alesha seem to be playing up just for the cameras. Some tweeted that David and Ant and Dec are far more genuine. The fact that Simon insisted on re seating the audience so the “pretty people” sat in front was also met with grumbles.
