X Factor’s Simon Cowell to launch new “Eggs Factor” talent show, for food!
It would seem that Simon Cowell is sick of audition dogs and people who can’t sing, as he is embarking on a new talent show, this time where the wannabe will all be of the edible variety!
Cowell, the reality puppeteer behind The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, will front the show, called Food Glorious Food, as it searches the country for the top home-cooked dish.
The chef of the winning dish will receive £20,000 cash as well as their meal being produced and shelved by good food giants, Marks & Spencer.
Joining Cowell on the show, being jokingly refered to as the “Eggs Factor”, will be the production crew of top chef, and TV veteran, Gordon Ramsay, who is as famous for speaking his mind as Cowell, with the show planned for broadcast on ITV1 in February 2013.
Regional heats will begin next month, where wannabe chefs will present their dish, and sob story no doubt, to producers, with the winners then going on to face a series of challenges involving their dish throughout the semi-final and final, all judged by a panel of “experts”.
Food Glorious Food is currently trying to decide on a host, with X Factor’s Dermot O’Leary being the clear favourite at this time.
A show insider told The Sun newspaper: “We’re tapping into the Jubilee spirit with a Best of British theme. It’s open to all ages — from a granny with Cornish pasties to a youngster who has the ultimate recipe for jellied eels. We’re looking for characters too — with the ‘likeability factor’.”
It is reported that after a huge dive in viewing figures from both X Factor and BGT, Cowell, who is a fan of simple food, is desperate for the show to be a serious rival to BBC’s Masterchef, he commented: “I love my mum’s roast potatoes. Shepherd’s pie, Cornish pasties — I want stuff like that on the show.”
