Robbie Williams has revealed that he was rather offended by how many music stars snubbed the chance to work with him, but jumped at the chance to write with Harry Styles.
The former Take That star spent over a year writing and recording for his brand new album, while at the same time his young One Direction protege was beginning the same journey.
Like Robbie, Harry has stepped outside of his boyband comfort zone. He is forging his own path for the first time but he appears to have more support than the dad of two.
Williams told The Radio Times that he was keen to work with Bruno Mars and Max Martin last year. Neither man accepted his offer or even replied. They were much more keen with they heard a One Direction star wanted to collaborate!
Robbie said: “Last year I tried to work with Bruno Mars – didn’t hear anything back. Tried to work with Max Martin – didn’t hear anything back. They literally didn’t return my calls.
“Then I met Harry Styles in an airport. ‘Oh, you’re writing, Harry? Great, who with?’ He goes: ‘Well, I just spent a week with Bruno Mars, and I’m about to spend a week with Max Martin’.”
Williams revealed that he pretended to be happy for Harry during he encounter, however he sounded a little more bitter when retelling the story.
Rob isn’t so sure all the hype will be worth it in the end and admitted: “I think Harry Styles has beguiled the whole world just by being Harry Styles. He’s got a David Beckham-style quality. So he’s won in that regard. There’s a space for him, but the music has to be great.”
Harry has been the subject of a lot of fan concern this week, after he stepped out looking less than his best in LA this week. Fans are worried that he’s overworked and stressed and not coping well with his solo career.
