We recently reported that X Factor judge Louis Walsh had blasted One Direction – the band was of course formed on X Factor in 2010 – and branded the group’s singers “monsters”.
He went on to claim that having had “too much money [and] too much success” practically overnight made the band’s members buy into their own hype…
An apparently irate Louis then insisted that despite the group’s singers all believing they are destined for solo success, “They are not.”
He added, “Only Harry [will be successful].”
It could be that Walsh was lashing out in the wake of the fact that none of the 1D lads have signed solo deals with Simon Cowell and his label Syco…
Because of course, Walsh is close friends with Cowell, and it’s no secret that Simon feels affronted that Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Harry Styles all shunned the label that made them hits in the first place.
As of right now, only Louis Tomlinson is maintaining close ties to Cowell, and the One Direction singer’s own label is, as Syco is, affiliated to Sony.
So was Walsh’s dig nothing more than anger with the 1D lads on Cowell’s behalf?
Well, only Louis can answer that truthfully, but we don’t see what evidence he has for making that statement…
After all, Niall’s solo debut single This Town went to No1 on iTunes within hours of being released. Though granted he didn’t hit the top-spot on the UK Charts as former X Factor winner James Arthur pipped him to that post.
So it remains to be seen how Liam Payne’s solo career is going to go, and ditto for Harry Styles too…
But because One Direction already has a well established and enormous fan base, we can’t honestly see how any of the 1D can fail!
Their solo offerings would have to be pretty dire to lose the loyalty of One Direction fans, and again, we can’t see that happening.
What do you think?
