Anabel Kutay and Chris Piper leave So You Think You Can Dance
Anabel Kutay and Chris Piper have become the first contestants to leave BBC’s So You Think You Can Dance.
After performing a Samba and a Jive routine in the first live show, viewer votes left couples Hayley & Chris and Anabel & Drew having to ‘dance for their lives’ in solos in front of the judges. The four gave their all in the final thirty seconds to save their place in the competition, and judges chose to eliminate Anabel and Chris, saving Hayley and Drew.
Of the final performances from Hayley and Anabel, Nigel said:
“Hayley, you are a wonderful technician and you seem to pick up any genre you are given. If you are to stay in this competition though you are to add more Hayley into the performances.”
“Anabel you’re so beautiful you remind us all of Penelope Cruz, and we’ve always had so many high expectations for you. Tonight is difficult because you’ve had a week to perfect the jive. You’re still on your tippy toes and you need to stay into the floor. If you’re to stay in the competition you’re to lean the style that is given to you.”
“We are unanimous in our decision. We feel in truth that neither of your solos were dynamic enough to change our minds. We have looked at everything we remember about you since you first joined the competition many weeks ago now, and the person we’re going to save is Hayley.”
Of the final performances from Chris and Drew, Nigel said:
“We are unanimous in our decision. Your solos did have a high impact on us this evening and that is what finally changed our minds. Chris if you want to stay in competition you need to settle down a little more, find that groove, sit on that beat because sometimes you feel uncomfortable, slightly off that beat. You need to watch that.”
“Drew, you need to be careful with your personality in your performances. Your performance was stronger in the jive than your technique. In the group dance, to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, however, you were too stage-school. “
“After your solos though we had no doubt that the person we were going to save was Drew.”
After her elimination Anabel said:
“I’ve absolutely loved every second. I’m so proud to be recognised as one of our country’s greatest dancers.”
After his elimination Chris said:
“Being part of So You Think You Can Dance has been an amazing experience, I’ve met and worked with some amazing people, and I wish all of them all the luck in the world in the remainder of the competition”
The results show had performances from the Lemar and Boy Blue, and a group performance featuring all fourteen finalists to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, choreographed by Stephen Mear.
Next week the remaining twelve dancers will be fighting for their place to remain in the competition, and Hayley will be paired with Drew.
