So You Think You Can Dance: Matt Flint choreographed Let’s Dance routine for James Thornton and Charlie Baker

Matt Flint is due to make an appearance on So You Think You Can Dance when the show returns this weekend, but it won’t be the first time the tap dancer has been affiliated with the BBC.

A clip of the London based performer was featured on BBC Breakfast this morning, and he was seen stunning the SYTYCD judging panel – Nigel Lythgoe, Arlene Phillips, Louise Redknapp and Sisco Gomez – with his fast paced and unique tap routine.

However, Matt isn’t quite the newcomer though and obviously has TV links, because after a bit of research we discovered that he has recently worked on BBC’s Let’s Dance For Comic Relief, where he choreographed the routine of series winners James Thornton and Charlie Baker. You can see pictures of him at the final show with the famous pair here.

Speaking about Matt’s audition this morning, English dancer and choreographer Sisco Gomez raved:

I was amazed. As a tapper I was amazed. He was so good and we don’t see tappers like that any more in Britain. It was good to see him changing it up and being so different with it and not so traditional. I loved it!

Louise Redknapp later admitted that they often see the same type of routines and dance styles and so Flint’s uniqueness is what impressed them at the London tryouts. She said:

That’s why we were so excited by Matt because he came with something different.

It was very freestyle tap and we see a lot of contemporary dance and not always done the way it should be done. It can be very jazzy, stage schooly, a few kicks and a few turns but we are looking for more.

We need something different and we also need dancers that can do everything and that can turn their hand to everything.

So You Think You Can Dance returns this Saturday to BBC One at 7.10pm. Check out the latest video promo below.
