Antony Cotton Wins Soapstar Superstar 2007
What a shock! Antony Cotton has won Soapstar Superstar 2007.
I like Antony….who wouldn’t? But compared to Hayley Tamaddon and last years winner Richard Fleeshman he doesn’t quite make the grade. He has loads of personality and he has a decent voice, but Hayley has a fabulous voice, with energy to burn. I can’t help think that the wrong person won, but then the people of Britain did vote for him, so who am I to criticise!

Every poll I saw had hayley in front and she was also the most talented of the two by far ,
I would demand a recount

I disagree with stevee bee, Hayley was very good indeed I agree. In fact she was excellent and deserves to do well.
But all in all I think Antonys wit, humour, excellent singing voice and his showmanship earned him the 1st place in Soapstar Superstar. He was absolutely brilliant

whilst antony didnt have the best singing voice he has far more charisma personality and soapstar appeal.

I agree with stevebee…all of the polls had Hayley well out in front so just what went on with the final vote?
Hayley was a much better singer than Antony and other better singers than him fell along the way.
The end result of this show was a total sham.

antony was the better entertainer hayley was the better singer it was a tough one but i suppose the public voted for the entertainer not the singer i think hayley should of won she’s xtraordinary

It was hard to choose between the two:Hayley is a wonderful singer, Antony is a spectacular entertainer, but I think Antony deserves to win Soapstar Superstar 2007: he has far more charisma than all the other performers and his singing voice is great!

The show was called Soapstar Superstar and from the onset the judges were looking out for singing voices and appearance.
Why then towards the end of the show were they looking for wit humour and a general entertainer….wasn’t it supposed to be about being able to perform at superstar level and not Lilly Savage level.

Of the two finalists Haley has the far greater chance of a musical career if she wants to , I hope she goes on tour with Michael Ball then go into a musical in Londons westend or make an album ,i think she is that good.Could do better than Martine MCCutcheon the sky is the limit ,she is brilliant…….

Aww wot a shame for Hayley, far more talented than Anthony, yet he was entertaining…..all the old women must have voted for him !! as it was Saturday night and lets face it wot else do old women do on a Saturday night

Antony is a supremely worthy winner. He has a mellow, clear, underestimated voice and yes I know of these things - my singing tutor taught Shirley Bassey all she knows. This was no fix - I voted 50 times and no, I am not an elderly grandmother but someone who appreciates his all-round entertainment value and modest persona!!! Well done.

Haley was the best ever performer ever since the series began. everything about her was pure talent and entertaiment.She opened the show last week and should have closed the show last night as it’s winner. Haley can we have an encore

This show is not so much about finding the ultimately talented person if that were the case there would be a contract offered as a prize.
The show is about raising money for charity via using soap actors and actresses as contestants. At the end of the show it isn’t just the winners charity who benefits it is all of them in proportion to 10p per vote gained, throughout the show.
Antony was a very worthy winner he proved how understated his voice could be and that believe me is where he performed best. The ballads were beautiful all else from him was entertaining. So much so that the television companies have realised the value of him as an entertainer and he is to host his own chat show soon.
Hayley knows how to belt but then so do thousands of others. Hayley belts well and with some training may have a career ahead. But one has to be honest belters exist in the thousands - singers are a rarity.

buh i defo think tha hayley shud of wun coz she was absolutely bril she got the crowd goin. antony is a good entertainer and did well buh hayley shud of still wun well dun hayley anyways x

Could someone give me the name of the haunting song which A. Cotton sang. He sang it one evening and it was sung again on another occasion. I thought it was lovely.

What a great pity Hayley never won, she was far the better singer , Emmerdale lost out again to Coronation Street, this is why I think Antony won, Corrie is perhaps watch by more viewers ??. It is always Emmerdale stepping aside for program space, or being taken of air but Corrie allways stays. Come on Hayley you have a wonderfull voice lets here more.

I never watch soaps! So I wasn’t a Corrie fan just voting for my favourite programme.
I’m not a granny either; and I’m not gay (tho’ the last gig I went to was the Scissor Sisters).
It was a tough one, Hayley was great, with a super voice. It was a bit bad tho’ to try and get votes by saying her boyfriend would propose to her if she won!
Antony’s voice was often underrated by the judges, and some of their comments were definitely biassed against him. I think his voice is fantastic, and he could handle the different moods of the songs, like “Daniel” and “La Vida Loca” better than Hayley, who did tend to sound a bit the same, even with “It Must Have Been Love”.
Antony won because he deserved to, and it’s a pity if some people who don’t agree want to be rather spiteful about it. It was supposed to be a bit of fun, after all!
