Soapstar Superstar 2007: Is Michael Ball Deaf?
Did anyone else hear Mark Furze sing ‘Obviously’ tonight? He was out of tune and very flat the whole way through, and I didn’t think he looked very excited at all!
Martine McCutcheon commented on Mark’s tuning problems and pointed them out as an area Mark needed to work on. But in his critique of Marks performance, Michael disagreed with Martine, saying that he didn’t hear any flat notes at all.
Now either Michael Ball has severe hearing difficulties, or he was listening to his iPod during the whole song. If he had been listening to the same performance as the rest of us he would have heard a woeful, and out of tune version of a pretty catchy wee tune.

Actally, I always think Mcfly sound off key but realise its how they sing their songs, It sounded adequate to me too, much like the original and hey anyway,these are soap stars not trained singers, they are all doing ok and funnily enough I think Mark has a good voice,I agree with Michael actually.Rod

Michael Ball is far to nice to sometimes speak the hurtful truth to often. As the consumate performer the quintessential tenor of the musical theatre he is probably exercising some tact aswell, not wanting to go down the route of lets be a MR NASTY JUDGE.
To comment that something sounded awful, or painful or without any take on why or what can have been done to make it better doesn’t qualify any of the X factor judges as even decent mentors.Especially when the songs in the main had been there choices and not that of the contestant.
Last night the sad Aussie ‘MARK’sang better, he was more tuneful and prepared.Well done. So maybe not knocking him has worked, after all if the X factor contestants each week were told the awful truth each week, they wouldn’t stay where they were as contestants. Or to give us the speil from the screen about how pleased they are to be there and to keep voting.
So instead some (not all)of the comments were guarded to the contestants of the X factor, the arguments instead are to do with JUDGES EGOS and these were as expected between themselves and for a good proportion of TV viewers why they watched the programme.
On Soapstar Superstar it makes for a really pleasant atmosphere when egos take a serious backseat.
Also, another lovely detail is that the music is live, no lesser spotted or soon to be extinct musicians have been replaced by a backing disc. Also observed this with Just the two of us aswell. They were a bit loud on the latter though. Solving this one could simply mean a larger studio to allow the sound to pan out a bit. Or maybe spliting the musical arrangements or lines down or a third option turn the pa down a notch and then re-balance. Turning the volume button on the TV is not an option.
Criticism whenever it is given vocally to someone should always be constructive with a suggestion of what area they really need to work on. None of the X factor judges were singers so maybe it is time they got themselves a qualified person on board to try to help the contestants out.

i actually fought mark sang it really well despite forgetting the words! but u cant blame him he doesnt really know most the song anyway so it is kinda hard but hes fit nd does sound great so u can forgive him if he goes a little flat!!

i think that mark is great and i dont care what any1 says. so wot he may have gone a lil flat!these r soapstars and havent been trained. he is gorgeous!!!!!
and he should have won!
