Arlene Phillips to judge BBC version of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

After being dropped from the Strictly Come Dancing panel, it seems that Arlene Phillips has landed another lucrative contract. She has been signed as a judge on the BBC’s new version of ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’

Heading the new judging panel will be former Pop Idol judge, Nigel Lythgoe, who created the American version of the show.

Lythgoe said: “I began my career as a dancer on the BBC in the sixties. Now, I’m back as a judge of dancers – I believe I’ve made a full circle back to television’s home of dance here at the BBC.

“I couldn’t have imagined that dance would become a global phenomenon that would ultimately be responsible for this, my very special homecoming. It’s good to be home.”

Phillips said she had always supported dance talent and looked forward to “seeing the most promising developing before our eyes each week”.

So was the whole Arlene scandal a publicity scam from the start? It seems strange that she never spoke out against the BBC, when everyone around her was having their say. It seems more than possible that Arlene left Strictly, knowing she had already secured a position on SYTYCD, but agreed to stay quiet on the issue until maximum publicity had been gained for the new Strictly series. Other theories welcome below!
