Nicky Byrne has confirmed all the rumours and revealed that he will be taking part in this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The former Westlife singer has been linked to the BBC show for a few months now and insiders had claimed that he agreed to take part in order to boost his profile, now that he’s out on his own and trying to forge a solo career.

This evening the 33 year old took to Twitter and told his followers that all the speculation was correct and he revealed:

‘The rumours Were true ! I’ve signed up & looking forward to being a part of Strictly Come Dancing 2012.’

‘I’m excited I’m scared & I’m laughing all in one ! It’s gonna be such a challenge and I’m reallylooking forward to it. What a great lineup,’

‘In store too this year.. Some real surprises coming over the wkd ! Chat soon folks my twitter is exploding !! keeeeep dancing #scd’

Nicky also revealed the news during an appearance on The One Show earlier in the evening.

We think Nicky will be an interesting contestant to watch, as he has no previous dance experience and lets’ face it, other than swaying in time with bandmates, swinging around the odd mic stand and hopping on and off stools, his time in Westlife wasn’t exactly filled with rhythmic movement either.

A number of other stars have been definitely confirmed for the show, which kicks off next Saturday night.

Earlier in the week Dani Harmer revealed that she would no longer be touring with Sam Attwater in ‘Disco Inferno’ and would instead be donning her dancing shoes and 37 year old retired cricketer Michael Vaughan also revealed he was on the lineup.

The full Strictly list is expected to be confirmed within the next few days, but we have compiled a list of all the stars strongly suspected to be taking part. It includes quite a few Olympians, along with actress and model Jerry Hall and Eastenders actress Charlie Brooks. Check out the list here.
