Strictly Come Dancing 2010: Artem Chigvintsev almost deported
New Strictly Come Dancing professional Artem Chigvintsev has been sent back to America, before he was deported by the UK Home Office.
The Russian born dancer, was dancing in the West End show ‘Burn The Floor’ before signing with the BBC. Under immigration law, he is only permitted to work 20 hours per week in a second job but Burn bosses insisted that he carry out 38 hours.
BBC producers sent heated emails to Artem’s agent and Burn The Floor bosses and yesterday ordered the dancer to return to America and apply for a full working visa.
According to The Sun, the email read:
“The UKBA (UK Border Agency) have told the BBC once the visa is issued Artem’s sponsor will be the BBC and he can work 20 hours a week on Burn the Floor. For us, Artem cannot go over 20 hours at all for fear of being deported.
“We cannot stress how important this is. Strictly is so high-profile in the UK that we cannot put a foot wrong.”
Burn the Floor’s furious creator Harley Medcalf has now threatened to sue the TV channel.
He said: “They have been arrogant and tried to bully us.”
