Strictly Come Dancing 2010: BBC use staff to fill launch show audience

The BBC were reportedly forced to ask staff to sit in the audience of the Strictly Come Dancing launch show, after members of the public failed to show up.

The show was pre-recorded on Wednesday and the channel issued 600 free tickets to fans of the show who applied via their website. However only 205 people turned up to see the new lineup including Ann Widdecombe, Scott Maslen, and Patsy Kensit.

Show bosses were then forced to send an email out to their staff saying:

“Although we issued 600 tickets for today’s launch we’ve only had 205 members of the public turn up.

“We need 478! If any of you would like to be part of the studio audience, please go to the foyer.”

The launch show will air on BBC One tomorrow at 6.25pm.

Ah, we-ell – if they guranteed you getting into to see the show with the ticket they gave you, I’d actually bother to apply. But since they don’t, I’m buggered if I’m going to pay out to travel up to London, queue for hours and then be told, sorry, we’re full!
