Strictly Come Dancing 2012: Bosses hope to recruit Olympic champ Beth Tweddle for this year’s show!

It seems that this year’s crop of Olympians are hot property in terms of reality TV shows, and today, the Sun’s TV Biz reports that the bosses of Strictly Come Dancing are keen to line up gymnast Beth Tweddle to star on the show.

Three-time world champion Beth — who has said she intends to retire from pro-athletics after this year’s games — is just one of the big names that BBC chief want to snap up for Strictly, but she has yet to sign.

A Strictly source told the paper, “The bosses have made it clear their priority is to secure as many London 2012 competitors as possible.

“The Games are by far the biggest event of the year and they want to reflect that by getting some big sporting names on board.

“The attitude is that if someone has won a gold medal, we should be considering them…

“But securing Beth would be a big coup. She is a popular member of the British team and her retirement leaves her able to consider other projects.

“There’s no doubt she would be capable of some phenomenal moves on the dance floor.

“Nothing is confirmed yet but we have our fingers crossed.”

The paper adds, “Beth is considered the most successful British gymnast of all time and has competed at three Olympics.”

Earlier this week, Beth led Team GB in the women’s gymnastics squad, who finished sixth in the team event, which is apparently the highest position since 1928.
