Impressive debuts from previously unfancied dancers such as Lisa Riley, Sid Owen and Colin Salmon alongside below par performances from Victoria Pendleton and Michael Vaughan on last week’s Strictly Come Dancing have helped shake up the pecking order in the race for the coveted glitter ball trophy.

Lisa Riley surprised the bookies by topping the leaderboard at the weekend with an impressive 30 points and has moved from 66/1 to 20/1 to win the competition. Lisa’s odds shift is closely followed by Sid Owen who amazed the judges and the bookmakers with his first dance and has seen his odds slashed from 50/1 to 14/1. Colin Salmon was another big mover with the bookies and his odds were halved from 50/1 to 25/1.

On the flipside a number of dancers failed to meet the bookmakers’ pre-competition expectations and have slipped down the betting stakes. Oddschecker.com report that Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton made a number of mistakes at the weekend and her odds have lengthened from 15/2 to 14/1. Michael Vaughan’s footwork on the dance floor failed to match his footwork at the crease and bookmakers are now offering 50/1, out from 25/1, on him becoming Strictly champion in December.

Olympic gymnast Louis Smith remains the favourite at 9/4 to win the competition while Johnny Ball and Richard Arnold are joint favourites at 11/4 to be the first dancer to leave the show this weekend.
