Strictly Come Dancing 2012: Louis Smith says receiving an MBE is “out of this world”
This year’s Strictly Come Dancing winner Louis Smith has revealed that he’s delighted to have been awarded an MBE in this year’s honours list and has described it as “the icing on the cake” of what has been a great year.
The Olympic gymnast was recognised for his services to sport following his success in the London 2012 Olympics.
Speaking to the PA, Louis said, “To receive this honour is out of this world and something I never would have dreamt of as I grew up in the sport of gymnastics.
“This year has been like no other for so many reasons…
“For me it’s obviously one I’ll never forget and I wasn’t sure it could get any better but to be awarded an MBE is the icing on the cake and without a doubt the proudest moment of my life.
“What a year.”
In addition, former Strictly Come Dancing star Arlene Phillips has landed a CBE, of which she said, “I am very pleasantly surprised but mostly absolutely thrilled and delighted to receive such a wonderful honour.”
Getting back to Louis, he recently revealed that he plans to end 2012 by eating lots over Christmas before getting back into shape for the Strictly tour.
He told the Mirror, “I’ll be three stone heavier next time you see me.
“I won’t be taking my top off on the tour, that’s for sure. I think I’ve taken my kit off enough for a while.”
Really? I beg to differ, but hey ho. Here’s a reminder of the moment Louis won this year’s glitterball trophy…
